@woodwardsports @tigers Not too many good signs from this kids. Hope he figures it out sooner than later.

@employednt @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ I think a better example would be you have 5 patients that all need one organ (each being different) while a singular patient needs all 5 of those organs. That sounds equivalent to the problem presented which I would say you save 5 lives
English

@CulpertB @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ the lever-puller is not forced to make a decision - inaction is an option, it just leads to 5 dead. the same is true for the doctor.
is it your take that human lives are evaluated by different ethical procedures depending on one's contextual role (patient vs. hostage victim)?
English

This is the correct way to view it and it's why you pull the lever.

@employednt @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ No, it would be murder if they ACTIVELY MURDERED their patient to harvest their organs
English

@AlexRoseGames @CulpertB @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ so the doctor that could save five lives but chooses not to is a murderer?
English

@employednt @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ Yes they are, decide to let one die or let five die. And yes why wouldn’t different contexts allow for different reactions? Is it your take that you should mass screen everyone for organ donation and then force them to die when they match? When you extrapolate it sounds silly
English

@employednt @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ Their consent was first violated when they were kidnapped, the person pulling the lever is as much a victim for being forced to make a decision. Utilitarianism dictates one should die over five, but that is not how it works in medicine. Patients are not hostages, not the same.
English

@CulpertB @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ surely the lone person on the second track also does not consent to the trolley being switched to run them over, though. this is another interesting question posed by the trolley problem - if the watcher switches the tracks, are they guilty of murder? if not, why?
English

@employednt @AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ These aren’t equivalent examples at all. The equivalent of the doctor in the trolley problem is the person who ties the people down, NOT the person pulling the lever. A patient has to consent to organ donation, in the trolley problem they are taken against their will
English

@AlexRoseGames @OpinionsAreGood @jack_whitcomb_ assume then that the unhealthy people all suffer from genetic conditions for which transplants tend to have near perfect success rates with a prognosis of a long and healthy life following the procedure. would you still kill the healthy man?

@MarkPraschan @kayinterrupted Pretty sure she was talking about the shot clock

@ShirtPantsJones @BradGalli Typically surgery is viewed as a last resort, they prob thought he didn’t need it and advised him to rehab. Shoulder could have been worse than they originally thought or he may have reinjured it during the rehab process. Sucks either way :(
English

@BradGalli Why wasn’t this taken care of when he hurt it during the summer?

Hot take: In 50 years we will have massive studies linking right wing ideological inconsistency with literal physical mental disability. And no, this is not just me calling them R words in a nice way - I genuinely believe that a vast number of Americans don't have the mental faculties required for adult level critical thought - wether it is genetic, environmental or something third - we'll know eventually. This goes past the classic philosophical argument that "we are formed by our environment" - while the vast majority are subjects shaped by the society they grew up in (material conditions etc.) there is a sub strata of cretins so profoundly inconsistent that one must recognise their failings as more biological than political.

This is why a cult of personality is so dangerous. These people don’t even have political ideologies. Whatever Trump says is their view.
The fundamental problem here is they treat politicians like professional athletes and political parties like sports teams. There isn’t actually any critical thought behind any of their support, they just root for their team. This shouldn’t be surprising, considering a lot of these people were radicalized by “feminists OWNED” compilations on YouTube.
They have spent the last 10 years defending his every word. They bought all the Trump merch. They wear Trump clothes. They have Trump bumper stickers on their cars. They make Trump posts on social media. They go to Trump rallies. They buy Trump crypto. And they make sure everyone around them knows all about it.
They have made Trump a core piece of their personality. At this point, they literally can’t afford to be wrong about him.
It would mean admitting that they spent the last decade of their lives being played, just like everyone was telling them the entire time. Most people do not have the strength to do that, and they likely never will.

This is where we’re at now. Leaving your home is justification for a federal officer to murder you. You must stay inside at all times. The outdoors belongs to Trump. I want to remind you, this is the “small government, don’t tread on me!” crowd making these comments.
