Have you ever heard about Arikamedu? This ancient Indo-Roman trading port was once a thriving center of global commerce, connecting India to the Mediterranean. Today, it’s a ruin barely anyone knows about. WTF happened? And why has this port been erased from history?🧵

ATTENTION:  Recently We’ve been made aware of scammers who are impersonating well known writers online.  Here’s a statement issued by Penguin Random House explaining the situation: Scammers are using established writer’s names and making false claims that they’re interested in mentoring or giving advice to other writers. Please be cautious. Often, the goal of these scams is to steal money, intellectual property such as a manuscript, and/or valuable personal information. If you’ve received a suspicious communication, please report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center: ic3.gov. To learn more about publishing scams, visit prh.com/prh-fraud/.

@TradDeshastha @Jinesh_Choraria @apratim1998 @peshwaspeaks @centre_hindu @BarooahNabaarun may I request u to share extracts from Dr. Ambedkar's works on our Gods, Itihasas & Puranas to help us understand how he loved the soul of Hindustan & healed the civilization from within?
Amar Govindarajan@amargov

Good intervention by @arvindneela Ambedkar was a civilisational insider. His critique was rooted in a profound love for the soul of Hindustan, which he sought to liberate from the 'riddles' of social stagnation. swarajyamag.com/ideas/civilisa…

Dr. Ambedkar on our Itihāsa: > Shri Ram was the illegitimate son of Rishi Shrunga, not Dasharatha. > Shri Ram committed incest by marrying his sister Sita. > Shri Ram & Dasharatha had hundreds of concubines, besides their wives. > Mata Sita & Draupadi were conceived publicly.

My review of Shubham Deore's "Decolonising Hindus". "Instead of merely describing the impact of the British colonial project on the subjects’ reasoning abilities, he demonstrates it through live action: by penning what might genuinely be the worst English-language book in recorded history. It is performance art disguised as scholarship." api.omarshehata.me/substack-proxy…

The "very erection" of Babri mosque was the "fundamental act of desecration", DY Chandrachud tells me. A startling statement -- all the more given the verdict he co-authored clearly says no evidence was supplied to show if the earlier structure was demolished to build a mosque. A big loss for Indian and Maratha history. Eminent historian GB Mehendale is no more. His monumental works on Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj will always be referred as masterpieces. It was a privilege to have known him. Om Shanti 🙏

Imphal, Manipur: PM Narendra Modi says, "...For the last few days, young men and women of Nepal can be seen working hard to clean and paint the roads of Nepal. I have seen their pictures on social media as well. Their positive thinking and positive actions are not only inspiring but are also a clear indication of the new rise of Nepal. I wish Nepal all the best for its bright future."

The Priest-King statue was not lost during Partition. For 25 years after 1947, it remained on display at the National Museum in New Delhi. It was only in 1972, under the Shimla Agreement between Indira Gandhi and Zulfikar Bhutto, that the sculpture was transferred to Pakistan.

The Partition resulted in the physical and psychological separation of this iconic artefact from India. While both India and Pakistan share the heritage of the Indus Valley Civilisation, the idol's location in Pakistan has made it a symbol of Pakistani national heritage. #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay
