The EFL has sanctioned Sheffield Wednesday consistently since 2018. Over that period, the club has been hit with multiple transfer embargoes spanning nearly a decade. By October 2025, Wednesday were under six simultaneous embargoes — the most any club has ever faced. On top of that, the club has suffered repeated points deductions. A -12 deduction in 2020/21 severely damaged recruitment and momentum going into that season. Although it was later reduced to -6 on appeal, the damage had already been done — those points ultimately proved the difference between survival and relegation to League One. In 2025, the situation worsened further. The club received: •-12 points for entering administration, after the former owner failed to meet basic financial obligations such as paying wages and bills on time •A further -6 point deduction, again due to the owner’s failure to uphold his responsibilities This is not a case of a club gaining an unfair advantage — quite the opposite. The club has been placed at a significant competitive disadvantage for years due to sustained mismanagement. Sheffield Wednesday has endured one of the most damaging ownership periods a club of its size is likely to experience. The former owner’s approach has not only harmed the club financially but also created a toxic environment for staff and supporters alike. And yet, despite this, there is now an expectation that the same owner should be repaid — while the club continues to face further punishment. How can that be justified? The new ownership group should not be penalised for the failures of the previous regime. They should be given the opportunity to restore stability to a club that has lacked it for nearly 26 years. Imposing further sanctions — such as another -15 point deduction, spending caps, business plan restrictions, and transfer limitations — would only deepen the damage. It risks condemning the club to yet another relegation and prolonging the cycle of instability. At some point, there has to be recognition that continued punishment is no longer corrective — it is excessive. The club, its staff, and its supporters deserve the chance to move forward. #FairDealForWednesday @storchyowl

@TWFootball1867 And regarding the manager situation. Today was a prime example as to why we need a full clean next season. Mentality so negative with absolute nothing to lose.

Claims made include the EFL only telling #SWFC administrators & preferred bidder on Tuesday morning of restrictions. The EFL wants to apply £7m wage bill & an upper limit of £7k a week on players. It's claimed a 15-point deduction for next season is “entirely discretionary"

Id like to see another bit of pace on the right and McNeill come centrally. Our only outlet is on the left and I think Swansea are covering that now. McNeill will at least demand the ball in the 10 position. It's hard to see what Lowe is offering in this game.

Get Ross Wallace out of the commentary box. He’d put a shift in #swfc

@TWFootball1867 Partly down to the fan base Tom? Many thought the likes of Fiz, Windass, Musaba and in his early days Djedi weren’t good enough, but worshipped the likes of Pato. Look at the levels they are all playing at now. Far too dismissive of players who haven’t reached their potential.

We have to address the fact that many young flair players leave Wednesday after a decent season, and instantly become elite multi-million players. A combination of reasons, but the culture is, imo, the main one. We have to create a culture where these players show their full potential, or, we the club will never reach theirs

Rangers have rejected an eight-figure approach from Monaco for Djeidi Gassama. There is interest in Joe Rothwell as Rangers look to strike a deal for a permanent exit. @Chris_Jack89 also has the latest on Hansa Rostock forward Ryan Naderi ⤵️ rangersreview.co.uk/opinion/257998…

Fair play to Svante then. Keeper having a pop at Cadz and no one in sight apart from Svante. The entire team should have been across, he's 20!

🚨🔵 Chelsea agree deal to sign talented 17 year old fullback Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday, here we go! Initial fee over £500k plus heavy add-ons. Chelsea beat 3 more PL top clubs to the signing.

If we sell Cadz for 750k-1m, as has been suggested is the figure we will listen to, then serious questions need raising. 20 years old. 89 senior appearances. 16 senior goals. Full international. He scored 8 goals in 20 games in the league we are going down to. That is half of his valuation

@TWFootball1867 One of many nonsensical decisions under the current circumstances. Who on earth signed off the Redmond deal?

Alao looks like he's got 200 games under his belt. So assured on the ball. Why did we loan a player from a team who want to buy Alao and play him Infront of him. Makes absolutely no sense

The comments made about another one of our young players over the last 24 hours is again not good to see - putting it mildly. 20 years old. A full international. 16 senior goals at 20 years old. 8 goals in half a season in the league we are going to. A host of championship clubs monitoring him. Past PL interest. New bid from an SPL team. Verdict from Owls twitter - not good enough. I don't care how many people unfollow me or don't like what I'm about to say, but this is (part) of the reason why young players never reach their potential at this club and leave. And part of the reason why we do not have the success other clubs have who have a salubrious environment for young players to play. Players read these tweets and are very aware of what is being said. Cadz has such a high ceiling. His physical attributes demand he play at L1 for his entire career at a very minimum. A little refining of his technical ability, movement and game understanding will determine where he lads. He could go right the way to the top and be a PL striker if he gets it right. However, that becomes more and more unlikely when a 20 year old is reading comments online that our fans will drive him to Scotland for what is an undervalue bid. It knocks their confidence. And honestly, it makes me think we deserve our current situation of this is how we treat our young players.

@TWFootball1867 Doesn’t make sense, there’s no correlation in what you’ve said, just emotion. The 3 players you’ve just mentioned, 2 were crap for us and 1 average at best. I want to see us develop our youth and support the admin

The irony of the, eye test Vs data, accusations I've had since saying our 20 year old defender played well at the weekend is I only ever do video analysis now. I only really use data for recruitment. And there's been no need to do it. When analysing the game, it is always video and tactical analysis.
