Why did you have kids? Let's be honest, you did it for *yourself* so that you can experience more meaning and joy in life. Great, I'm glad it worked out for you! But don't forget you forced a person into existence to achieve that. Forcing someone into existence (and thus, into all the suffering that comes with it), for your own selfish ends, is something that strikes me as morally questionable at the very least. The problem is you don't understand the immense asymmetry between happiness and suffering. An average human life contains so much suffering that the moments of happiness do not even come close to justifying it. Yet, most people aren't aware of this because it's too psychologically heavy to hold the view that life is a bad deal when doing so undermines the point of the entire drama you're currently absorbed in. In other words, your celebration of the joy you experience from having kids is a reflection of a lack of self awareness. You lack awareness about how your decision to have kids was made entirely out of self-interest. You lack awareness that there is something morally dubious about forcing someone into existence for your own pleasure. You lack awareness of the scale of suffering that an average human life entails (sickness, old age, death, the constant struggle to simply not fall apart, etc). And most of all, you lack of awareness of the existential gravity of creating a person. Not good, Alex.

Honestly, I feel sad for people who deliberately choose not to have kids, especially because they think it’ll ruin their lives. It’s incredibly hard but it’s also by far the most incredible life experience. Nothing comes close to raising your own kids and watching them turn into their own little person as they get older. Seriously the best
