@grok @cptdankkk @whimsical523456 Yeah that seems like a pretty good deal for a fresh actor in his 20s...
English

CyderKnight Right, as an unknown he had zero leverage on LOTR ($175k total for the trilogy). Post-success his pay scaled fast: ~$2M for Kingdom of Heaven, $3M for Elizabethtown. Pirates sequels (Dead Man’s Chest + At World’s End) brought ~$11.9M combined; first Pirates added several million more. Next key films easily put him in the tens of millions range overall. Clear negotiating power jump, even if no backend on the original billion-dollar trilogy.

Orlando Bloom says he made just $175,000 for all three The Lord of the Rings movies
“I auditioned originally for the role of Faramir, and they brought me back for Legolas. So I had been on tape for one role, and then I taped again for Legolas”
Howard: “How many years were you shooting The Lord of the Rings for?”
Orlando: “18 months and then going back for reshoots for a few months here and there. New Zealand was awesome. There were dinners and of course we'd have drinks on the weekends every now and again. It was such a magical time”
Howard: “On The Lord of the Rings, you probably didn't even get to participate in the backend. They signed you when you were nobody”
Orlando: “I got nothing. I got $175,000. Listen, the greatest gift of my life, are you kidding me. I'd do it again for half the money”
English

@NotSoFoolish @cptdankkk @whimsical523456 People forget now many hundreds of thousands of actors just spin their wheels and go nowhere with their career or at best get a minor background role in an indie movie.
English

@cptdankkk @whimsical523456 That was his first film out of acting school. He wasn't getting any backend. He did get a life changing opportunity.
English

@cptdankkk @whimsical523456 Dude he was a complete unknown at that time, he has no negotiation power.
After LOTR he had a LOT of negotiation power.
@grok what was Orlando Bloom's income for his next 5 movies after LOTR?
English

@whimsical523456 the missed opportunity was not negotiating anything from the backend but nonetheless launched his career

@financedystop All of the millenials that were encouraged to go to college are basically screwed with AI. College loans for a worthless piece of paper…now have to learn a trade and start at the bottom. AI companies should be proud because the suicide rate is going up once unemployment peaks.
English

@financedystop @grok what is the unemployment rate in the USA?
What state has the lowest unemployment rate?
English

Yeah I mean its anecdotal but I think anyone who has done both knows how much better outdoors is and how much more you get out of exploring then being in a hamster wheel.
Also the most important part... You can't just "get off the wheel" when you're 5km into the boonies... Ya gotta do the 5k back... No choice in the matter..
English

@CyderKnight @Rulerofsome1 This gentleman has a great breakdown on the benefits of outdoor walking vs on a treadmill.

@blitzzCDD896 @HatsuneMiku8814 @ShitpostRock That's Beth (played by Elizabeth Banks) ya doofus. The woman he marries is Tris (played by Catherine Keener)
Fun fact, Keener is the one who got Jonah Hill his role in Moneyball (she knew Brad Pitt from the movie "Johnny Suede"). And she basically launched Jonah's career.

@s0meguy77 @Monroe1659842 Trauma? Bruh its a 2 year old. They cry and freak out over literally everything and anything. You have to train them to handle these situations.
English

@CyderKnight @Monroe1659842 Yeah, it’s a training exercise. It can be taught without the trauma is my main point. I’m not against these type of lessons if done in a way that generates respect for the water, not fear.
English

Sometimes the unexpected tosses are the most rewarding. Yes, he was scared—and learning to respond through that fear is exactly what we’re training for. In a real emergency, children don’t get a countdown. They have to rely on the skills they’ve built through practice. This was his first unexpected toss, and I couldn’t be more proud of his response. He cried for a moment, then calmed himself down, closed his mouth, and began responding to the skills we practice every class. That’s the kind of emotional control we’re working to build. And yes, he did swallow some water—and that happens. The important part is that he wasn’t continuously swallowing water. He regained control, closed his mouth, and responded. That’s exactly what practice is for. With continued practice, his response will become faster, calmer, and more automatic. Afterward, we celebrated with two high fives and took a moment to talk about what he had just accomplished so he understood how capable he truly is. Progress isn’t about never being scared. It’s about learning how to respond despite the fear.
English

@Monroe1659842 He's 2....he doesn't understand "training". He understands feeling like he's going to die and his mother watching.
English

@s0meguy77 @Monroe1659842 So what happens when the wall is too far to reach? They should just drown? This is clearly a training exercise on sustaining a backfloat.
English

Absolute idiocy. I’m all about survival swim lessons. This is moronic. Discouraging the kid from grabbing the wall and saving himself? And teaching him that after rolling over and floating and yelling for help, his mother (or whoever that is) isn’t going to save him? Why would he ever bother yelling? Why would he ever trust his caretaker? Not to mention he’s old enough to learn swimming skills along with the survival skills. Disgraceful

@PrusaGuy @nerima_nerimono Hmmm I have a feeling this guy might be biased...

@heaven_piercer @BreakerLim63434 Naruto had the benefit of the show being named after him.
English

@BreakerLim63434 Mfckers be putting jiraiya as one of the top ninja in konoha when he old as f and still can only use half sage mode when an idiot like Naruto learnt it in a matter of a week. U say he was just lazy and I say if he was lazy than he wasnt strong at all .
English

Also one last thing I'll note.
As a lifter, the only quote I've ever seen that actually stuck with me was this.
"I really regretted that workout" -Said noone ever
Seriously, I've done many things I've regretted in my life. But I have never, ever, finished a workout, and on my way home throught.. damn I really shouldn't have done that.
Its a guaranteed valuable usage of your time. How many things in life are like that?
English

@CyderKnight I want to get active enough so that I can play pickleball or basketball again. Basketball is my favorite sport
English

Is there an anime character stronger than Madara Uchiha?
And I'm referring to Rinne Tensei Madara Uchiha with the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan and Rinnegan doujutsus (with the rikidou paths ability) equipped with his Gunbai and control of the juubi and Gedou Mazou, a complete Susano'o, with Hashirama Senju's DNA implanted in his chest so he can perform Mokuton kekkei genkai and yin-yang release ninjutsu as well as being extremely skilled in taijutsu and bukijutsu.
English

Basically they just roll on vibes.
Ever been black out drunk? It's the same thing. You just roll on autopilot. Also even as a child you may not have direct memories of your parents but you "know" who mom is. You "know" the safety of your family.
The fear of the unknown and the comfort of the known etc etc.
English

@CyderKnight @XivTroy Yes conscious is the word I've been trying to think of!
English

This is one of life's greatest mysteries: are wild animals conscious? Does he know he's dying? Is he scared? Afraid? Did he even know he was alive in the 1st place? Does he have regrets? Or was it all just instinct from the sunrise to his sunset? Hunt, eat, rest... rinse, repeat.
