@StatsOnCycling @irishpeloton Solution Tech Vini Fantini just won the Tour of Hainan (2.Pro) GC with only two riders left racing the final stage. Surely a first ever for this level of race???

@boyntoncoaching @MenaspaP @AbbissC Any links to studies where athletes are excercising at core temps >39°C for extended periods? Interested to see how much it might have been costing me if it actually was this high.

@Cyrus_Monk @MenaspaP @AbbissC It is plausible. But you can also hand draw similar data on a graph and say it’s plausible for the conditions. The question is, is it accurate? And that’s where the doubt creeps in, given the validation data of the CORE device and it’s method for estimating core temperature.

Been lucky enough to get access to a few CORE sensors over the last few years to aid heat prep for races. Can’t say I rely on them solely for executing heat acclimation sessions and this is partly why. Graph from Stage 1 Tour of Thailand today in 38°C.

Sometimes I feel like we’re making inroads to bridge the gap between sports scientists’ findings from the lab and athletes/coaches practicing in the field. Other times we find a sports scientist trying to gate-keep endurance training…

@AnnaKiesenhofer Taking the above into a count will lead to a fairly classical approach of 4-6week blocks with 1-2 hard days, 2-4 moderate days, and 1-2 rest days per week. Incorporating easier weeks between each block to recover + adapt before the next phase.

@AnnaKiesenhofer BUT ensure chronic load is at a point where there is still room to build through your key training phase. If you’re close to your limit months out there won’t be much room to ramp things up when necessary without falling in a heap

One topic I keep wondering about is how to train far away from your main goal, say 5+ months before... What foundations make sense to be laid before you embark on the specific training? The classic approach might be lots of Z2 training - but is it necessary, is it ideal?

Set yourself some S.M.A.R.T. goals for 2025. Write them down. Be accountable. Enjoy the process. Learn. Grow. (5/5)

It’s rewarding to tick things off; it’s even more rewarding to push yourself to new limits and see just how far you can get, even if reality gets in the way of some of those dreams. Don’t get so fixated on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey along the way. (4/5)

I’m big on learning from the top dogs, not just in my own sport but across all professional sports. This time last year I took a leaf out of @JustinThomas34’s book and wrote down some goals for 2024. As you can see, a lot of them didn’t go so well. 🧵 (1/5)
