No it wasn't. The "I hate weeaboos" anime fan is directly responsible for the current state of the culture. They hated the actual fans who gushed over things without caring for social norms, so they invited the "normal people" in hopes of no longer feeling insecure.

@morchel Mind you current Mojang is actually spending most of their time fixing Notch's horrible coding and decision to use Java as the engine so they can do more things like Caves and Cliffs. There's is also a metric fuck ton of corporate stuff because it isn't only on PC anymore.

@garrettkidney Slice of life moments in anime and manga serve that purpose, filler only really exists to buy time for the manga to move the plot forward before the anime catches up. No reason to take a detour to dig for gems in a pile of shit when I can keep walking down the gem-lined road.
