This notion that 2K WANTS people to “play the game and grind” is fucking hilarious because that’s the complete OPPOSITE of what they want. Under NO circumstance do they want you to actually “grind it out”. They just want you to get to the point of saying “fuck this shit!” and spend as much money as possible. The system is supposed to break you, not provide longevity. That’s why the grind is excruciatingly long, and the tier skips are there in the first place. This has been 2Ks policy for years in NBA 2K, they just slowly drip fed it into the WWE games. And now it’s here in full effect.

Players are criticizing WWE 2K26 after discovering that even the $150 edition of the game still requires a lot of grinding to unlock DLC characters. In previous WWE games, buying the Season Pass usually gave players access to upcoming DLC wrestlers automatically. But in WWE 2K26, things have changed. The game now uses a new system called the Ringside Pass, which works like a progression pass with multiple tiers. Even if you buy the expensive edition that includes this pass, you still have to earn XP by playing matches to unlock each character. The first pass alone has 40 tiers, and some players say it can take around 240 matches just to complete it. Many fans online say this feels unfair, especially for players who already paid the highest price for the game. Others argue the system is meant to keep players active over time instead of unlocking everything instantly.
