If the first plan doesn't work, the US and Israel are working on two parallel plans: 2- Ethnic forces: Using ethnic armed groups and MEK to defeat the Iranian regime on the ground. Kurdish, Baloch, and Arab ethnic groups have been armed and are ready to take over their regions in the west and south east of the country. MEK has armed units in Tehran and other cities. This plan won't be popular with ordinary Iranians in Tehran who are worried about separatist tendencies of these groups and have unfavorable views toward MEK. 3- Reza Pahlavi: Working with Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi to bring people to street and seize power. Reza Pahlavi has a strong public support in Tehran and a number of major cities. Once the regime is weaken enough, he will try to mobilize people to take power in places like Tehran. His supporters lack organizations and arms. His chance will increase if the Iranian regular army would defect and support him. So far we haven't seen signs of any defection. Reza Pahlavi has had strong support from Israel and he has two well-funded TV stations to help him. The plan 2 and 3 are totally running in parallel and will clash eventually. The supporters of Reza Pahlavi and the supporters of the ethnic groups have a strong disdain for each other and armed conflict between the two is going to happen once the regime collapses. Despite the statements by the US government that we don't want nation building, what happens next in Iran is going to be the US responsibility.
