Then Israel struck Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025 after Trump’s 60-day deadline expired with no deal. Iran’s program was devastated. You would think that would create urgency to negotiate seriously. It didn’t. This February Iran came back to the table for three more rounds. February 6 in Oman. February 17 in Geneva. February 26 in Geneva again. Six rounds across nearly a year. Two carrier strike groups sitting off their coast. Trump warning explicitly that the consequences would be steep. Two aircraft carriers, over 100 fighter jets, the largest US military buildup in the region in decades, all visible on satellite imagery, all undeniably real. And what did Iran do in that last round on February 26? Just before the talks ended, Iranian state television reported that Tehran was determined to continue enriching uranium, rejected proposals to transfer it abroad, and sought the lifting of international sanctions. They walked into the room with two American carrier groups outside the door, ran out the clock, and went on state TV to announce they weren’t giving up anything. Trump’s own envoy Steve Witkoff said just before the strikes that Iran was probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material. Six rounds of talks. A year of patience. Two carrier groups as a warning. A 60-day deadline. A 12-day war in June that destroyed their facilities. Rebuilt. More talks. More stalling. More enrichment. Too much diplomacy led us here. This is not about not enough diplomacy and no amount of propoganda from Groyper Grandma and sloppy MTG or Tucker will change that.
