This is a business case study. I see it all over, ESPECIALLY at the collegiate level where it is so easy to blame so very many things rather than grapple with truth, honesty and integrity. That isnt me taking a shot at Drexel, it is me taking a shot at the industry.
Joon Lee@joonlee

The Red Sox didn’t lose their way overnight. Their incentives shifted. When private equity enters sports, the questions change — and so do the answers. Inside the organization, some describe the culture as “toxic positivity.” The story behind it: open.substack.com/pub/joonlee/p/…

After two decades as a reporter, I learned this quickly: the truth inside a program rarely reaches the head coach. My new venture, @selfscout_ conducts confidential interviews inside programs to uncover that truth and show coaches how they’re actually experienced. Please follow along here: @selfscout_ selfscout.substack.com/p/introducing-…
SelfScout@selfscout_

Introducing SelfScout. Find out what your position won’t let you hear. We conduct confidential interviews inside a coach's program and deliver the truth—good and bad—about how you lead.

@MilesMcQuiggan CT doubles the width of the Merritt, allows the far western part of the State to officially be part of NY, and it can maybe make #4. MA, VT, ME are a locked in top 3. You're absolutely right about the summers.

Either the coaching isn't good enough to put even a decent on-field product out there each week. Or the Union front office failed so spectacularly that the players aren't good enough in parts of the XI where good coaching won't matter.

@CheckAnfro @CoachKennaKV @ryanhammer09 At the CAA level, you dont need a bunch million more dollar. You need about 1 million. That shouldn't be insane for a significant D1 institution. And its not.

@DCrain_AAD @CoachKennaKV @ryanhammer09 Yes, the fix for them was to Spend massive amounts more than they ever have, and run the biggest fundraising campaign that the school ever has. So yes, a bunch more millions of dollars would likely fix Campbell. I am not denying that.

“Campbell has made the decision to shift their commitment away from basketball” “There are no pathways that the institution will fund the program appropriately” Sad day for Campbell, sad reality of the current landscape of the sport for mid majors who can’t/won’t spend a lot

@JerryBeach73 Is it? The dub sure, but even that gap isn't world changing. The other three are capable, to compete with each other, and Id argue NU spends the lowest today but they COULD easily become the highest.

Of course, even if this were to happen, the four non-FB schools in the CAA probably couldn't all move to one league. The NIL/infrastructure is wildly different from UNCW to Hofstra to Drexel to Northeastern.
Jerry Beach@JerryBeach73

What needs to happen is the NCAA needs to allow a one-time waiver for new leagues to form with an instant automatic bid. The CAA has a football/hoops schism & is oversized w/too much travel. But of course the NCAA is not gonna do that for the CAAs of the world.

@CoachKennaKV @ryanhammer09 There isn’t one without a new President of the school. Campbell is 40 years into having a basketball program for men and they have had a losing record for like 75% of their seasons.

I respect a man a lot more when they stand for what they believe in. Credit to coach here who took action and out himself in a better place, even if it meant temporarily giving up on a dream job to be a D1 HC.

@DCrain_AAD Basically positioning himself for the job he will get after Louisville. Going on the record by daring Campbell to a debate. Agent is a genius.

Matt Roberts is the best in the business, simple as that. Unfathomable levels of back when it looked like we were in a bind that we’d never get out of a couple weeks ago.
Jeff Goodman@GoodmanHoops

Charleston has hired Akron head coach John Groce, source told @thefieldof68.

Groce, 54, has taken the Zips to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and gone dancing four of the last five seasons. Groce will replace Chris Mack, who left Charleston after two seasons to take the South Florida job.

Groce is 377-225 in his career. He was also the head coach at Ohio (2008-12) and Illinois (2012-17).

He did the thing. Built a platform, camps, and brought excitement, joy and at times opportunity to a ton of kids in our area. He had an impact, and this experience, regardless of how it ends, will serve him well in the future as his career continues. Failure, it is not.

Hate seeing @jmverlin use the word "failure" here. Its a hard, if not dying industry. Josh and I dont always see eye to eye, but he carved out a space, and an income, chasing his passion. I have a ton of respect for it, 99% of people don't have the guts to do that.
Rich Flanagan@richflanagan33

FYI you won’t be seeing bylines from me or fellow writers on CoBL for the near future. Josh has done a remarkable job growing the site but as many can attest, this is a brutal business and the model for success is difficult to emulate. Hoping for the best cityofbasketballlove.com/news_article/s…
