I just finished reading Justice Clarence Thomas’s masterful speech from yesterday on celebrating the Declaration of Independence during America’s 250th anniversary. Simply extraordinary. I consider him to have the greatest biography of any living American, and one that surely embodies American ideals. The moral vision he inspires is stunning. And the whole speech is suffused with the Christian natural law tradition. In addition to its sweeping condemnation of progressivism, his speech is an immediate classic in civics formation. But that the speech’s content is now so foreign, so unfamiliar, to so many, reveals how successful progressivism has been in memory-holing our national inheritance. Progressivism is a civic, moral, and theological cancer. It must be fought against and defeated if there is to be an American order (and moral decency). Too many quotable lines, but here’s one: “The Constitution is the means of government. It is the declaration that announces the ends of government.”

Rory McIlroy claimed his second consecutive Green Jacket this past weekend, taking us on another rollercoaster ride at Augusta National. On this week's Fried Egg Golf Podcast, @AndyTFE and @TrevorImmelman discuss how Rory's game differs from some of the greats and touch on the top storylines coming out of the 2026 Masters.

Numbers 11 reminds us that chronic complaining does not make the Lord happy with us. Don't be a complainer. People don't want to hear it, and neither does the Lord. 😂

@DDGrayD @ErikReed Duck, there is an easy explanation. He doesn’t want people in his church who aren’t like him. The “every tribe tongue people and nation” is inconvenient for him and he’d rather not think about it. For him, the gospel has become a false gospel of his own comforts.

@ErikReed This is a moronic thing to say as a pastor. You are literally trying to reach families with the gospel. When they visit your church, will you deny the existence of their children? What the fuck is wrong with you?

You can’t understand the Bible on your own, that’s what the Magisterium is for. You can’t understand the Magisterium on your own, that’s what the Pope is for. You can’t understand the Pope on your own, that’s what Vermeule is for. Got that?
Adrian Vermeule@Vermeullarmine

I take the first sentence, especially in the context of both current events and perennial Church teaching, to mean “God does not bless any and all conflicts,” rather than “God blesses no conflicts.”

@DennyBurk This is not huge. College sports are not part of the executive branch of the US government, so the order has no force. The White House has picked fights in higher ed the last year and lost all them. How fucking stupid are you?

President Trump has signed an executive order to return college sports to what it used to be: 1. Players get one free transfer and have to sit out a year if they transfer again. 2. Players have a five-year window to compete. This is huge. [Link to order in thread below.]

Some very popular picks and great golfers struggled this week: Robert MacIntyre (World No. 8): +7 (MC) J.J Spaun (World No. 5): +5 (likely MC) Min Woo Lee: +11 (MC) Maybe golf, and in particular, Augusta National is just hard? Don't really have to make definitive declarations after 18 holes of a tournament.

@AlexBurch__ @pottacoffi No. Goal is to win but winning is hard. Plenty of great players go their whole career without winning multiple. Rahm and Bryson have 2 each. They’ll each get a few more.
