Bob, this was an INCREDIBLE piece! Masterfully, explained how MFFL feel & the entire point the fanbase is trying to make. Casual fans don’t get it, they’re like Nico. “Hey AD is great this helps we’ll be right there for a ring this year.” MFFL for 40yrs, I’ve spent over 75k on tickets, merch, parking, food, drinks at the AAC just THIS year.
As a season ticket holder I’m invested. Sure, Is it just a game? Yes it is. Is it silly for adults to be this deeply rooted with a sport and a player that they don’t know personally? Yes I can see that as well.
But we are loyal, this is our team, our guy, our battle every season to get that trophy lifted. To talk shit to our rivals and gloat in our glory! We live and die with every play. We pay their SALARIES, do they truly know how important we are? They’re about to see, Jerry definitely is starting to get humbled by it.
If they take fans for granted, they’ll get bit quickly. It takes decades to build trust. It only takes a second to destroy it. I’ve seen some of the worst teams this franchise has displayed and watched every damn game of 10-20 win seasons. Why? Because it’s my team and I stand by them for better or worse. Do I get frustrated with Luka at times with the antics? Sure, we all do. It’s out of love knowing he can be better than what he shows at times. Constructive criticism if you may.
But at the end of the day rivals better not bash our guy, our team & our city! This is OURS!! Luka was OURS!! Dirk was OURS!! Anytime they win it’s a win for all of us! It’s weird for other fanbases because they’re not as loyal and passionate as MFFL are. They see it like the Yankees and lakers just another banner and ring. They count rings and banners. We count years of service to the city, community & franchise.
We would rather lose with Luka 15yrs in a row. Than win 15yrs in a row with anybody else. He was the one who Dirk deemed next in line, here’s the torch, the keys to the city! He’s the Don! The great one! He was LUKA MAGIC!!
Nico stripped all the magic away from this loyal fanbase. Every new player that comes here (besides rondo) that buys into the culture of MFFL feels the love. They end up staying here to live even if they move onto new teams. Because they know it’s different here. We mean what we say & we have OUR guys backs!! For good or bad.
I have been sick to my stomach nonstop over this. Took one hour to crush all my love as a kid from the 80’s 90’s to just not even care who wins anymore. I still love the core, Kyrie, PJ, Gaff, Lively, Powell, the guys who are battle tested here. Who stood up in big moments for us. I wish nothing but the best for the rest of the Mavs. I’m trying to be as positive as I can be. But they can win 100 rings in a row & the love; the fire, the passion & mostly the LOYALTY has been stripped from me.
Nico absolutely ripped the heart out of the body of MFFL and stepped on it. He then laughed and cracked a cornball ass joke to start the press. Kidd was a draft pick here, won a ring here, HC here. He’s one of ours too, he gets it. That’s why he was staring into space and didn’t laugh ever. He understands this is bigger than basketball. It’s bigger than rings and wins. It’s about the people in the stands and at home that allow these players and owners to be able to do what they love. To in return give us what we love.
The feeling has always been mutual with owners and MFFL. But that’s dead and gone. Nico is completely disconnected from the community and fanbase. He’s selfish, thinks only of his ego, he wants all credit and no blame. He doesn’t care cause he knows he won’t live here. He’ll move onto a new city and new job.
He’s the young, non-dementia Jerry Jones. Same ego, same disconnect & same lack of care. The great owners & gms don’t want credit. It’s given after results are accomplished. They’ll accept it, but then give it to fans & the players.
Maybe one day Luka Magic will return home & we can finally heal. #MFFL @luka7doncic
