I rarely eat out.
Maybe once a month. Went yesterday to a restaurant (Italian, Mediterranean) in West Seattle for Mother’s Day last night.
Total for 5 of us ( we don’t drink alcohol) with one salad, humus and 3 vegetarian pastas was $97
The check said 3.5% surcharge for credit card. Then 17% service fee, mandatory.
Then tips were 20% 22% and 25% optional.
I asked if I could pay in cash.
No. They don’t take cash. Then how can I avoid the credit card fee I asked.
You can’t.
So I asked why the service charge.
It pays for the employees they said.
Then why the tip I asked.
It pays for front office staff
I don’t get it.

The US federal budget is $7 trillion.
There are 535 in the Senate and Congress.
They collectively allocate that money.
Specifically: 7000/535 = 13 billion per official.
Which means AOC is a political billionaire.
She allocates far more than any market billionaire.

@DFerdinands did u hear the pager go off? a human had to create that monitor/alert. if something is worth beeping someone over in a meeting or when they're asleep, that could potentially be a severe issue. its up to the person on-call to assess that.

@ptaranat @willsclips_ @mintlify well yes if it’s severe you work on it immediately that’s kinda obvious but this post did not talk about how severe the break was. Disrupting company wide meetings at scale can do more harm than good imo but it’s all good for a startup unless it becomes a habit.

@DFerdinands @willsclips_ @mintlify i used to do infra at unicorns. if shit breaks at scale and it's affecting revenue, you stop what you're doing and immediately get it fixed. each second can be 10k-100k lost, more than hourly rate of everyone in that room. there's a reason post mortems include revenue impact.
