@KenMathis @Rory_Johnston The analysis is “well here’s the bad stuff that could happen.” But act like large swaths of the Iranians are just gonna endure a 3X worse economic event. And again the US has things like fertilizer and other resources far more easily accessible so there won’t be the same effect

@KenMathis @Rory_Johnston And again Persians aren’t like some other ME cultures that have constantly suffered. They had a cosmopolitan society not too long ago and are one of the most secular societies in that region. And again what happens if soldiers don’t get paid and families start to starve

@KenMathis @Rory_Johnston Meanwhile their enemy gets more oil revenue, will have a chance to rearm, and has most of the support of regional partners who matter. I just don’t see logically how this is a winning strategy for Iran especially with an American president willing to do whatever it takes

@KenMathis @Rory_Johnston Can they though? Their economy was already in shambles before the war. And now their industrial base is severely damaged and their main revenue source has slowed to the cost 400M per day. It’s possible they can pay their ppl or soldiers soon. So idk how this is good for them 😂

@JavierBlas It can via perception but once that perception is broken and the insurers start allowing movement, what will they do then? It also is crippling their own economy, making regional countries hate them more, and will lead to building of bypass methods. Long term isn’t good for them

Seven weeks later, many taboos broken: 1) Iran can’t block the Strait of Hormuz. Yes, it can, and for far longer than the oil market thought it would be possible. 2) If the US attacks, an energy crisis follows. Sure, gasoline is dearer, but an energy crisis à la 1973-79? Nope.

@glcarlstrom It then also requires China to have to wait longer to get the oil which again delays building projects and military build up. I guess we’ll see

@glcarlstrom But if China has to buy from elsewhere they’d be subjected to open market pricing which raises their costs of manufacturing and running their economy. I don’t think this blockade will hold long enough to do major damage to them but I get the logic

If no Iranian oil ever goes to China again, then China will just... buy oil from elsewhere, pushing up prices for everyone else By far the worst takes over the past six weeks have come from the folks in DC trying to spin this war as some brilliant 4D chess move against China
Semafor@semafor

"I think blocking the Strait of Hormuz is fine from my standpoint," @SenRickScott tells @burgessev. “If no oil ever goes to China again, and their economy is destroyed, that would be a really wonderful day for me."

@MarioNawfal Since you love discussing what is and isn’t a violation or a war crime. You should talk about this violation and what it should mean for Iran 🤷🏼‍♂️

@MarioNawfal So they are going to co-chair a conference on Friday and then it will likely take a few weeks to move their ships into position. So this whole process at minimum takes a month. That sounds like waiting to me dude lol. Also you should talk about how Iran mined Omani waters

🇫🇷🇬🇧 France and the UK are done waiting for Washington to solve the Strait of Hormuz crisis Macron and Starmer will co-chair a conference in Paris on Friday, bringing together non-belligerent nations willing to join a defensive mission The goal is simple: restore freedom of navigation in the strait Europe isn’t joining America's blockade, it’s building an alternative to it Source: AP

@Osint613 Doesn’t Oman also have territorial integrity over the Strait as well? Including parts where the Iranians put their mines? So why is all this talk of violations so one sided? Iran doesn’t own the strait and shouldn’t be interfering with traffic outside their territorial waters

@TotZiens8 @TankerTrackers @mercoglianos You do know China doesn’t have an effective blue water navy yet, right? All of their ships are also conventionally oil fueled so it’d be hard for them to do the mission you’re suggesting. They really can’t effect this at all other than diplomatically

@TankerTrackers @mercoglianos This is the easiest blockade to run. Chinese send their navy on a “freedom of navigation” exercise. And escort ships with their oil out. If the Americans sink a Chinese naval vessel in international waters, the whole game is up. China blockades Taiwan the next day.

@carl10ball @BenjaminSolak But again that’s under Howie’s control. He can send him to New England or to Cleveland/Vegas. Whoever pays the rate will get him. We’ll find out who that is soon

@carl10ball @BenjaminSolak Yes I’m not emotionally tied to AJ Brown. I appreciate his contributions and helping us win a title but no player is bigger than franchise. We’ve moved on from great players before and been fine. He’s nearing the end of his peak and if he wants out Howie should get max value

I like how Howie Roseman has positioned the Eagles. If A.J. Brown stays, Wicks and Hollywood are fine as WR 3/4 on their price tags. Both can stretch the field If he leaves, they’re good enough to be low end WR2s…while not precluding a middle round pick from winning the job.

@carl10ball @BenjaminSolak Whether he is or not I don’t care. Got us a Super Bowl so there’s the ROI. As for stars running the league, they might but you gotta pay to get a star. Lot of teams need a #1 WR. Again there isn’t a no trade clause so he can go anywhere. Think Vegas could use him

@DGoose512 @BenjaminSolak AJ is no longer on the team, deal with it. Stars run the league. He is getting what he wants! Say goodbye to him. He is laughing at you thinking a contract matters…

@carl10ball @BenjaminSolak You do realize he’s under contract for 3 more years, doesn’t have a no trade clause, and the GM that will be orchestrating this trade extracts maximum value on outgoing trades. Howie will trade him to the team that meets the price. He’s not your team’s shitty GM 😂

@DGoose512 @BenjaminSolak Bro, you must be drunk. AJ is gone, deal with it. Is not playing another year with coach and below avg qb. He has had enough. He wants out so he is getting what he wants! Deal with it already.

@CordellWoodland Have you met Justin Herbert? Lol At least Josh as a few playoff wins, an MVP, and AFC championship games under his belt. And btw I like Justin but 0-3 playoff record in 7 years and man still gets mentioned in the “elite” tier

The same Josh Allen that turned it over 4 times in a playoff loss? I say it all the time. I’ve never seen QBs praised so much for losing in the playoffs until Allen and Burrow got in the league. You’d think Burrow was in the playoffs every year the way some people talk

@EmmanuelAcho @charless_94 If what Omenihu said is true then it’s a bad look for both the Chiefs and 9ers. Cause it means the Chiefs are that Sneed dependent (only big loss from 23-24) and the 9ers even with all that talent couldn’t get it done. Kyle is 0-3 in super bowls btw. But we know the real truth…

@sethjoyner It’s also interesting that two of the guys he’s being compared to are the literal GOAT and Stafford who’s literally seen everything in his career and has the benefit of Sean McVay for 5+ years who is universally regarded as an elite coach. It’s an odd standard

Any defensive player who has sat in on playbook or gameplan installment knows, the first thing out of the DCs mouth is we gotta shut down the run‼️I don't care if the QB is #Stafford, #Herbert, or #Brady! The intent is to make the opponent one-dimensional‼️Then take away the #1 pass option! It's funny how this platform attempts to insinuate that because #JalenHurts is the QB the plan is so much different! GTFOH‼️✌🏾
