@MBosleyMD @jeffblatnik The original RTL paper uses a longitudinal PP suture and a looped PP outside of it. Are you following that or using non-looped sutures or any other modifications?

@jeffblatnik has been advocating for its use all year. It just makes sense. Makes a big difference especially when closing weak fascia that’s prone to suture pull through. Will be standard part of my practice

Nicely done Swedish clinical trial randomizing incisional closure after colorectal surgery with 4:1 PDS vs 4:1 RTL. Hernia at 1yr was 3x higher in PDS group. 4:1 RTL is a technique using non-absorbable suture placed parallel along the fascia edges with ends untied until after addition of the 4:1 closure. Anyone else use the RTL? @eurohernias #EHS2024Prague

Dr. Mackey was a great mentor to both @MWestfalMDMPH and I as @TuftsMedSchool students interested in surgery. He spent countless hours working with and supporting us as students and throughout our training. Our thoughts are with his family and the @TuftsMedicalCtr community.

We are deeply saddened to share that Dr. Bill Mackey has died at the age of 72. A longtime vascular surgeon, teacher and leader, Dr. Mackey spent his entire career at Tufts Medical Center spanning nearly 40 years. He served as surgeon-in-chief and on our Board of Trustees.

I like their styles and music. Even after a long day of work/call, I try to sneak in a quick 15-20 minute ride or a low impact ride
