OMG. 😦 Intel is planning to use all the water in Ireland - they’ve been planning it for months. There’ll be no water left after 24 August. This country has gone to the dogs or chips. Emigrate now, everybody!

The next phase of the water consumption hysteria writes itself. Someone is going to "discover" that Intel in Leixlip consumes massive amounts of water. Their €5bn expansion means more consumption is coming. Cynically, it will be written by someone that this just feeds data centres (as opposed to all our smartphones and personal computers). Thankfully, this one won't stick. 5,000 jobs in Leixlip and hundreds more coming with the expansion. Any of the opposition parties that kicked up a fuss about data centres won't pick this one up. They'll quickly realise their party has a Kildare North candidate for the next general election! You're only hearing about data centres and water consumption because people think they don't support much employment. Eh, actually they do! But that's day's work explaining.

Someone in Irish Rugby had already worked that out that if they were landed with Japan as the middle match with Italy and France taking the first and last, then staying in Aus made complete sense. The travel and time zone switches would have been shite - good call by Ireland. Fiji and Japan are the two invitation sides to the owners of the comp - 6N and SANZAAR. There'll be similar compromises in the next one - wait and see.

@dunc1114 Ireland took the piss. But if they had not had a turbo whinge and gotten away with it their schedule would have been, by far, the worst. I’d take England’s with the easy up and down to SA for a home match between their only two away matches as the best of anyone’s.

My genuine point is that even if Scotland were to win against Ireland - home or away - it would fall into the 'Pfft - Ireland are fading side anyway' category, and 'the real top elite sides are France, SA and ultimately NZ.' The final frontier is beating NZ for the first time. My uncle reffed the famous 0-0 draw between Scotland and New Zealand in 1964 - he was sure they were going to win on the day. So roll on November.

No he wasn’t stopped from playing test rugby whilst he was playing for a club in Ireland. Plenty of players have played for their country whilst playing for an Irish club - McGinty, Kleyn, Snyman, Alaalatoa, van der Merwe, Contemponi, etc. Two parties are required for a contract to be renewed. The player wants to stay and the club wants to keep him. You sign either as an already IQ player or else a NIQ player capped or uncapped. You’re either registered with IRFU or your home union. Nothing in your contract is stopping you being selected or playing for your eligible country.

To state the obvious. 🇫🇷 French club rugby (despite getting no gratitude) is a major reason the sport is able to have a RWC with more than 10 teams. They are only Tier 1 country players from anywhere in the world can play professionally at a high level in any serious numbers.

Your claims are wrong. There are limits in many countries including France around total number of foreign capped players in squads in order to protect and develop domestic talent. You claimed that he was stopped from playing for his country - he wasn't stopped. You claimed that he was poached. He wasn't. You claim that their contract status will be in danger. Not true either. All players have a defined contract period whoever they play for. Barring doing something illegal, the contracts are not in danger.

@DJMcCrumments No, I'm not wrong, there are strict limits on non-Irish eligible players, and the moment a player loses their Irish eligibility their contract status will be in danger.

@T2Rugby No you’re wrong. There is no restriction on who a foreign player can play for whilst they have a contract in Irish rugby. That is the player’s choice.

@DJMcCrumments No, that is exactly what happened. He was stopped from having an international career whilst also having a pro contract in Ireland because it was the Irish system requires. He or others would only ever play for USA or Canada if they have left Ireland.

He wasn’t stopped from having an international career. That’s simply untrue. He wasn’t poached either. He came over of his own free will and was given an opportunity. Plenty of Irish players have chosen to play for USA and Canada. They weren’t poached either. Your bias is showing once again.

@DJMcCrumments He's not a capped international. He's a player Ireland poached and then stopped having an int'l career for USA even though they wasn't needed by themselves. So the exact opposite of helping Tier 2 int'l rugby.

@T2Rugby He played for USA U20s and then took an opportunity to play in Ireland as others have done in the past. But you can always apply your biased view to discount it and the other players because it doesn't fit your viewpoint. Loads.

@DJMcCrumments Wrong. Salanoa has never been capped for the USA. He doesn't because Irish system requires him to be Irish eligible (although his career looks over anyway at this point). McGrath is homegrown Irish and can only possibly play for Canada now he has left Ireland.

@DJMcCrumments Only one of those is a capped Tier 2 international. So that isn't loads at all. Two of those listed are homegrown Irish int'ls, and two others will never play for their home countries to remain eligible for Ireland which is exact opposite of helping global int'l game at all.

@DJMcCrumments Whilst I don’t disagree with you that they are actually in the 5 to 8 ranking group, a 12 year range is bit disproportionate given that can be three or four generations of teams. Taken over last four/five years probably fairer.
