@firstroundmock I agree that he overrated on most draft boards but didn’t see a mention of all of his fumbles as a college QB. Did you reference that somewhere I missed?
As a former NFL Scout, one of two things is happening here with Caleb Williams.
A. Caleb Williams poses the greatest threat to the NFL’s infrastructure that I’ve ever seen in a prospect with all of the documented examples of him putting himself above team and process.
B. Carl Williams (Caleb’s dad) is desperately trying to manipulate the process and get his son to drop in the draft because of his documented ‘disdain’ for the process as written about in The Athletic:
“Carl has questioned the NFL rookie wage scale, the draft declaration deadline, eligibility rules, medical testing and the ways players are paid. In a September interview with GQ, he expressed disdain for the entire draft process, where “the worst possible team, the worst organization in the league — because of their desire for parity — gets the first pick.”

Either way, I have a 4th round grade on him after studying every single snap he’s taken the past two seasons:

Bottom line (all the other stuff aside): He’s an elite athlete who’s underdeveloped as a QB. It’s important to be able to separate the two. It’s important to be able to tell the difference between the ‘highlights’ and his ‘full body of work.’ I can guarantee you —the unrelenting Caleb Williams highlights mainstream media has been pushing down our throats for the past 2 years is not the real Caleb Williams that’s on game film. I provide all the links to his games the past two seasons in my scouting report link —see for yourself.
And either way, I’ve removed him from my draft board after he decided not to throw at the Combine and that is my professional recommendation to every NFL team, “Remove Caleb Williams from your draft board.” Those are the words on my cover letter that’s attached to my resume. This is a team game that’s built on organizational and league hierarchy and structure and I’ve heard and seen enough to remove him.

I barely had time to make that decision —before he decided to not make his medicals available to teams at the Combine.

I can barely even keep up with it. That’s why I post so much about him as an evaluator —because I come from an environment at the Jets that was all about information gathering back when I worked in the Pro Scouting Department under the leadership of Hall of Fame Coach Bill Parcells.
Caleb Williams craves to get out of structure on and off game film —that’s how I know this is really who he is —that’s I know this is him —this is Caleb Williams —it’s revealed on how he plays the game —a prospect can’t hide who he is on game film —it comes out —and it’s spray painted all over his game film (that’s why his time to throw is painfully slow at 3.21 seconds PFF) —that’s what’s behind all the ‘hero ball’ and ‘not seeing’ check downs and wide open receivers underneath —and when you look at the GQ article, watch his press conferences down the stretch of the season, listen to his dad Carl and the things he says, look at how he doesn’t have an agent, and watch and listen to his tone and demeanor when he talks down about that Notre Dame fan being a ‘sheep’ —watch the link below —watch him as he talks —watch the look on his face —all of it just serves as further confirmation of what’s on the game film.

This dude wants to buck the system as hard as he can and as a team will let him.
God have mercy on the team that drafts him —because the real party begins once he’s in a building and he’s the focal point of NFL media.
That’s when we will find out what Caleb and Carl Williams really have to say.
Every piece of information is a piece to the puzzle —and as an evaluator—the picture that’s coming into focus doesn’t look good.
