Yesterday’s 0-4 defeat for @realracingclub was the heaviest home defeat suffered by a leader of Segunda División in the history of the competition For it to happen at all was incredible but for it to happen so late in the season…! Segunda, the gift that keeps on giving!

Over the last 10 years plenty of big clubs have dropped into the third tier but we could be about to see the biggest drop yet with Real Zaragoza six points adrift with 11 games to go. Here's a thread on what's gone wrong the last few years 🧵👇

We have been made aware of a distressing image doing the rounds today, suggesting Tottenham have beaten us 3-1. This has clearly been photoshopped, and we will be taking this up with the relevant authorities. Even we'd beat Spurs...

@EFL Classic authorities/clubs ignoring views of fans. Will just further entrench clubs gambling to chase the dream, & increase the likelihood of teams going up and coming straight down. It reduces opportunities for young players, who traditionally get a chance in end of season games

Spain’s position on Iran is clear — the same stance we have taken on Ukraine & Gaza. No to breaches of intrl law, which protects us all, especially civilians. We reject the idea that the world can solve its problems through bombs. Let us not repeat past mistakes. NO TO WAR

Spain approved an arms embargo on Israel. Spain call out Trump for breaking international law. Spain realise war will be devastating. Spain shows the sort of international leadership a left wing party in government should provide.

"Spain advocates de-escalation, negotiation & respect for intrl law. We cannot resign ourselves to war becoming the natural way in which states relate to one another & establish a balance of power". Spain's Foreign Minister @jmalbares on the conflict in the Middle East.

@CarltonPalmer I think the problem is there are too many soft freekicks given for minimal contact and players falling over too easily/diving. So inevitably set pieces become more important. Games have become so sterile, endless sideways and backwards passing until a soft freekick is awarded.

Set pieces have always being an important part of the game .The game hasn’t changed the current players aren’t taught the art of defending hence all the holding and grappling .FA cup final 92 Arsenal .Andy Linegan header set piece decided the game .

@HLTCO I'm fed up of incesseant VAR & soft freekicks, particularly on defenders. Arsenal in particular are almost unwatchable as they play so cynically. I'm watching more and more Italian and Spanish football because there are still teams that play with some freedom and fearlessness.

I don’t know if it’s just the echo-chamber of my Twitter algorithm but it really does feel, this season in particular, as though a hell of a lot of people are falling out of love with the Premier League. Crucially not with football as a whole but with the Prem particularly.
Green Scouser@Green_Scouser

Does any neutral fan enjoy watching games of football anymore when their team isn't involved? I think the PL is at its lowest ever level in terms of entertainment. The nonsense during det pieces, poor standard of refereeing and too much play acting has made it unwatchable

No denying the performance of Serie A clubs in the CL has been poor this season, but there’s the danger of an overreaction about what it means. A lot of very negative conclusions being made about a league that - it’s worth remembering - is 2nd only to the PL in terms of European performance over the last 5 seasons. Atalanta, Fiorentina x2, Roma x2, and Inter x2 have all been to finals in that time. Como are an emerging and well backed force - Milan will be back in Europe next season This season we could focus on Napoli’s injury crisis, a rookie coach in charge at Inter etc - but whilst there are mitigating factors, they’ve undeniably underperformed. There are much deeper problems like the blooding of young Italian players, stadium infrastructure etc But this is not a league in crisis, or in serious decline imo - just as no one was saying it was perfect when things were going much better in Europe. Perspective needed.
