@Marydlv8 @JamesSm33264742 @reinhar6 @unlvpg From what I've seen they have added a lot of supplementary material: videos, interactives, audio files, web pages, etc. They are good resources for building lesson plans with a variety of affordances to address all the senses and learning styles. #cit600games

@unlvpg Has anybody had any experience building educational games within Second Life. I thought that would be a great place to set up a scavenger hunt similar to the ones we read about for the AR game. #cit600games

@MAXIMUMunlv @unlvpg I like the idea of building a scavenger hunt w/ the rest of the teachers that our entire school can participate in. We are a small school, so it is doable, & I could build a badging system that could translate into printed certificates that so academic achievement. #cit600games

@unlvpg Serious games are a little hard in my setting. I would need to have every research article we've read on hand, a detailed lesson plan, & data collection proving it's impact on standardized testing to use them. Wardens don't like things that look like play. #cit600games

@JamesSm33264742 @unlvpg Many teachers don't know where or how to find quality edu games. They may not even think to make their own, don't recognize the value of games for learning or are short on time. These things need to be addressed to add gaming into the classroom as a serious option. #cit600games

#cit600games @unlvpg @JamesSm33264742 Games are a valuable source of learning in the classroom. For instance, games can help with the students' learning of “history” and “anatomy & physiology” since they have shown to increase the students’ retention of material.

@reinhar6 @unlvpg The articles were a little dated. Most schools I've worked at have had relatively new tech: tablets, clickers, Smart boards, TIs, & so forth. It is often lack of time built in to the curriculum or lack of training that limits integration & gaming in my experience. #cit600games

@JamesSm33264742 @unlvpg The key here is supportive administration. Many teachers are afraid to do anything that doesn't look like teaching to an AP. You can't do what isn't supported in your school. #cit600games

#cit600games @unlvpg @JamesSm33264742 Teachers should have more training on how to implement games in their classrooms. Moreover, the school’s staff should encourage teachers the flexibility to add games as part of their teaching tools to aid in student learning.

@Marydlv8 @unlvpg This seems exceptional. It feels like it has a higher standard of quality for an educational online world. I am very familiar with the Assassin's Creed & I enjoy the historical components of the games. I could definitely see myself using this in a class. #cit600games

What do you think of youtu.be/3jiq1o1NJXY ? They removed the game elements you normally see in Assasin’s Creed and it became a tour of ancient Egypt. Was that a wise idea? @unlvpg #cit600games

@SARiesselmann @unlvpg Seniors are a good group for social games based in technology. It is so important to stay connected to the world even when family has slipped away. They can meet like minded people around the world to engage with. #cit600games

One way to use social games that came to mind is to give seniors relief from the lonliness many of them feel. They may not be able to get out much but the social aspect/affordance can be had in their rooms using media tools #cit600games

@MAXIMUMunlv @unlvpg I believe a person can turn anything into a "drug." If it feels better than their life & they have access to it, some people will use games to escape life & cope w/ emotions. I think it would be more accurate to add this to some already present addictive diagnosis. #cit600games

#cit600games @unlvpg The idea of using gaming as a way to create worldwide connection to sporting events (i.e. Olympics) and global problems (i.e. oil shortages) is impressive. We teachers should be doing this as part of school culture.

@JamesSm33264742 @unlvpg Same here. I think it's b/c social games like that are so natural to most people's lives like McGonigal said. We don't see how they are teaching us to collaborate and operate well in as a group. #cit600games

#cit600games @unlvpg @JamesSm33264742 I can see how playing "Red Rover" as a child could help develop my affective and social well-being. But I never thought that playing the game "Red Rover" could elicit beneficial effects on our cognitive skills while playing the game.

@Marydlv8 @unlvpg That would be a great change to the app. It could be an after school activity that allows the students to get to know their school better while teaching them about famous historical events and people. Would the four traits apply here though?#cit600games

@DRWatUNLV @unlvpg The reason I posted this is because of the idea of presence in the real world environment. This type of technology will allow us to use a map of a school in real time. The students would be greeted by famous historical figures (actors) talking not ghosts. @unlvpg #cit600games

@SARiesselmann That could really work. You could print the clues and place them all over the teachers classrooms. It would make the information more interactive and more playful. Student-centered activities are more common core centered as well. #cit600games

Been trying to figure out how to do outreach events for junior high and high school students. I think using alternate reality games at library events could work. #cit600games

@JamesSm33264742 @unlvpg I really liked the idea of creating a game based on a health need. Stress can take a toll on people's health, and games can be the medicine. Not everyone needs the medicine, but it's there for those that need it. #cit600games

#cit600games @unlvpg @JamesSm33264742 Real-world experiences can become more game-like through games like Jetset that can only be played while people are inside real airports. Games like these can definitely help ease the stress that people feel while traveling in airplanes.
