In Canada’s history, Carney is the first Prime Minister who has openly disregarded the people’s choice and trampled on democracy.

@DanCearnsy @elie_mcn Exactly, Marilyn takes her experience and expertise wherever she goes to fulfill her constituents’ mandate. Also, she’s unopposed to a bi-election. The CPC can only blame themselves for this predicament. They threw the dice on PP and lost. If only they had listened to Canadians.

@elie_mcn I have a different opinion. In elections, we vote for the person to represent us, not necessarily the party. We vote for the ideals of the MP to go to Ottawa, thats why the Prime Minister/leader candidates are not on the ballot

I don’t think most of the chattering class understands quite how damaging floor crossers are to democracy. These floor crossings will change the outcome of the 2025 election and invalidate the democratic decision Canadians made to elect a minority government. This sends the message to voters that their vote doesn’t matter. And when we get to a place where voters feel democracy is illegitimate, we enter a very dark place.

@DrJacobsRad Huh? The ‘perfidious nature of those enabling’ Carney? Easier to argue that the real treachery is in the direction of the opposition leader who continues to reaffirm his alliance with the US. Canadians have rejected this position since last year! PP should quit to save the party.

Canada is in a quiet democratic crisis. With 5 MPs crossing the floor to join the Liberals, the will of Canadian voters is being undermined by Carney's desire for a majority and the perfidious nature of those enabling him. For our democracy to work, Canadians must be able to trust it. Floor crossing undermines that trust. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Is there a single conservative thinker on this app that thinks that the MPs leaving the CPC might have at least something to do with Poilievre's leadership? I mean, you have to at least consider that, no?

@Rod00303861 @MelanieBennet_ Most Canadians reject coddling the US and recent polls reaffirm this fact. Carney has the chops to face down a fascist-Imperialist war mongerer by building international alliances. The opposition doesn’t have the moral fortitude or aptitude for that, which is why MPs are bailing.

@DSRpilgrim @MelanieBennet_ This has nothing to do with Pierre’s leadership. We have a PM who after parachuting back into this country has thrown all morals or decorum out the window, and his constantly dangling a carrot in front of morally compromised MP’s. Appealing to greed and personal enlightenment

@AJJCDA @AShoutAbout @sunlorrie Actually, Carney’s party is moving to be more centrist, further to the right. It’s nowhere near socialist or communist.🤷‍♀️

@DSRpilgrim @AShoutAbout @sunlorrie That was 14 years ago. Things change. It was also when the parties were all around the centre. The Libs have pivoted so left, they are no different than the NDP (except for their nut job new leader).

@SueAnnLevy @MelanieBennet_ And you sound like a maple MAGA which thankfully puts you in a minority of Canadians 😅. Polls consistently show that the majority of Canadians believe that Trump’s brand of fascist-Imperialism is not the way to go. Now THAT’s a moral compass. 😚

@MelanieBennet_ Conservatives are in a painful spot. They’re at the ‘double down’ stage before crawling over to the ‘yeah PP has to go’ stage. I can empathize, it was like that for me too when Trudeau had to resign and I still feel traces of loyalty to him.

It's interesting to see conservative supporters in the comments exhibiting similar levels of blind partisanship, ad-hominem slinging, and deliberate misunderstanding as the liberals they admonish for the very same behaviour. Concerning to say the least.

@AShoutAbout @sunlorrie @AJJCDA I agree and PP should not have voted against Bill c-306. Suspect he voted ‘nay’ bc the status quo seemed more favourable to the CPC at the time.

@sunlorrie Nah the real hypocrite is Poilievre. He voted against Bill C-306 which would have made bi-election compulsory in these exact circumstances. Lack of foresight, once again.

@sunlorrie @AJJCDA NOT a fan of someone being voted IN under one platform within their community and then deciding, without the support or input OF their community, to completely change platforms while in office! Each time this happens there needs to be a BY ELECTION for that seat...period! 😡

I remain firmly of the belief that if you are elected as a member of one party and you cross the floor, you should have to run in a by election. Especially since we are entering majority government territory and you are denying your constituents their voice for years potentially.

@DltaHspcSociety To be fair, MP’s are elected for their policies and expertise. I realize a contradiction could be seen between her position on palliative care and crossing over to the Liberals but that’s not her only priority. She has other commitments to fulfill for her constituents as well.

Canada has destroyed Palliative Care and then she crosses the floor! Was that the plan all along? In 2016, Bill C-277, titled the Framework on Palliative Care in Canada Act was introduced by MP Marilyn Gladu. This private member's bill aimed to create a consistent national framework for high-quality palliative care, including defining services, training providers, and ensuring access across the country. That never happened, that was all FAKE and a diversion. Now Canada k*lls sick and vulnerable people instead of providing Palliative Care.

Marilyn Gladu is a democratic traitor to her voters. Carney convinced the Sarnia-Lambton Conservative to become a Liberal. The voters by an overwhelming 38-49% depending on the last 4 the have voted Conservative. Liberals only came in 2nd once. The other times, they came in third.

Mark Carney is seizing a costly Liberal majority that voters denied him, and doing so through backroom deals. In January, MP Gladu said that floor crossers should face voters in a byelection to give voters the final say. I could not agree more. She should do so. The people in her community voted for our Conservative vision of a Canada that is affordable, safe, and strong at home, not for the costly Liberal government she has now joined. She should honour her word and let voters decide.
