Jesus’ harshest words in the gospels wasn’t towards prostitutes, other religions, or undocumented immigrants. Jesus’ harshest words were towards the rich and religious who used God’s words to justify exploitation and oppression. Yet many want us to believe the opposite.

This story is about a 3-mile stretch of LA known as “kiddie stroll” due to its open trafficking of child prostitutes. Budget cuts have left LAPD short-handed to combat it. This is something that the National Guard could be called in for, @GavinNewsom. nytimes.com/2025/10/26/mag…

@ABC Trump also says Powell should be fired. Using Trump's logic Powell should be fired for not lowering interest rates because of a fake jobs report that had not been released yet. Trump just continues to contradict himself so he's either lying or a fool (or a combination) .

The 2020 POTUS primary may have been the moment where the Democratic party de-linked itself from the perspectives of normal Americans. As someone who ran in that race, I was constantly asked my view on defunding the police, de-criminalizing the border, making private health insurance illegal, ending fossil fuels by 2030, or other ideas that were both bad policy and deeply unpopular with everyday American families. In that primary the Democratic party moved away from being the party of the working class fighting for kitchen table issues, but a judgmental, finger-pointing party that appeared obsessed with issues that only a small percentage of the population supported. Trump's utterly terrible response to Covid set up a big win for Dems in 2020 but the seeds were planted in that primary for the low approval ratings Dems see today. In 2028 Dems need a nominee that had nothing to do with the 2020 race. And the good news is the Democratic Party has an amazing collection of talented new faces, mostly Governors, that can turn the page for the Party.

It is a false choice to say we need to tank the economy to take on the trade deficit. The bi-partisan CHIPS Act, for example, focused on re-shoring an entire industry in a smart measured way. Similarly, Congress could pass measured tariffs paired with incentives to build manufacturing in the U.S. These actions would reduce the trade deficit, brings jobs back and not tank the economy.

@stevemagness You're spot on. Performance can't be based on one thing or it will be exploited (see Wells Fargo). Teachers, students & admin know the good teachers. Will there be a bad principal reward abuddy? Sure. But then the teachers will start leaving & the principal will be exposed.

Teacher performance is incredibly hard to measure. Why? If we do off absolute grades...teachers at well-off schools will perform better. Socioeconomic status is a large predictor of school success. What about growth and progress? The quickest way to growth is: teach exactly to the test AND bribe kids for success. The problem? Both of these may boost scores on a test now, but often fail to deliver long term growth. Like any job, incentives that only look at "selling widgets this month," tend to not help much over the long haul. We have to evaluate people complexly. Looking at absolute scores, growth, long-term impact of seeing those kids grow and develop, and on and on. The solution isn't to pay for performance...it's to let leaders and principals have some say. Just like we do in the real world. Your boss or manager has a say in salaries. Why? They aren't perfect. But they get to see your performance holistically. They get to see you work. They generally know who is doing a good job and who sucks. In education, we don't empower or allow those decisions to be made by people who are at the school and get to see the results. I get it...we have this mythos of objectivity.... But life is not a track meet. And treating it like it is, where there's a simple measure to determine how good you are...just isn't realistic. The solution, in my opinion, isn't to create some more bureaucratic mess of paying for performance and then arbitrarily defining what that means...it's to trust and empower people to reward good teachers and employees... The same way we do in most professional fields.
Vivek Ramaswamy@VivekGRamaswamy

Ohio will be the first state in the country to implement merit-based pay for teachers & principals in our public schools. Pay for performance - period.

@JohnDelaney Maybe that means people shouldn't live in those areas. Insurance companies should be charging rates in those specific areas that are more prone to being destroyed by weather. With today's technology they should be able to calculate by neighborhood.

A few thoughts on the insurance markets in light of recent storms and fires and what it all means for the housing and banking system: Recent extreme weather events have created a property insurance crisis, which will likely only get worse after this tragic California fire. Insurance companies will respond to these losses by raising rates or leaving markets altogether. We are already seeing this in Florida and California. Higher insurance costs lower property values in the same way higher taxes do. More concerning is if insurance companies pull out of markets entirely. This will dramatically reduce home values because homes in these markets won't be able to get a mortgage as mortgage companies require a house to be insured. As extreme weather events increase in number and severity it will result in heavy losses to insurers, which will result in higher rates or wholesale leaving of markets. This could cause a dramatic downward re-pricing of housing values and in turn a banking crisis. It is actually hard to imagine this doesn't happen.

If you build more housing - in the case of Austin, probably too much - rents will go down! Prices in most (not all) instances are determined by the supply/demand relationship. Relax zoning laws and cut building red-tape and more supply will follow and rents will go down!

@JohnDelaney @jaredpolis So how do we get him elected? BTW, Mr Delaney I would have voted for you because I felt you understood the economy. But somehow the ones who understand the markets and economy can never get traction with the national media and apparently not with the big donors either.

Great explanation as to how hard it would be to steal enough votes to influence an election.
Stephen Richer@stephen_richer

Hi Amy! I'm happy to address ballot harvesting again. I did it A LOT when 2,000 Mules theory was popular (Remember that one? It turns out the real fraud in that one was the former convicted felon filmmaker D'Souza (who could have guessed?!) and the fly-by-night snake oil salespeople Engelbrecht and Phillips (again, who could have guessed?!)). If you're talking about ballot harvesting that consists of Criminal Carl offering to take the ballots of his neighbors to the Post Office box, then I agree, that's an unlawful act that is very hard to police, and Criminal Carl is not likely to be caught. But that's no what 2,000 Mules is about. And it's not the horror that is typically imagined when discussing ballot harvesting. Instead, we're usually imaging hundreds or thousands of early ballots that are harvested in a systematic fashion so as to benefit a particular candidate or party. After all, in this situation, Criminal Carl wants to influence a major election like the United States President! So let's take that. The first question is: how do you get the ballots? Ballot packets go out to registered voters. Every vote has to be linked to a voter profile. To create thousands of fake voters, you'd need to fake thousands of social security numbers, birth certificates, and have a mailing address. Not happening. So you have two options: 1) You can steal early ballots from mailboxes, or 2) you can go around asking for peoples' ballots. In option #1, I find it hard to believe that you could time mail delivery so as to steal hundreds or thousands of early ballot packets before the intended recipient gets it from his mailbox. But even if you did, as soon as the intended recipient calls into my office and says, "hey, I didn't get my ballot," then the gig is up, because the stolen mail ballots would be deactivated, only the new ballot would be "live," and the original ballot packet would never be opened -- a lot of work for nothing. And if my office started to hear of entire neighborhoods of ballot packets going missing, or thousands of packets from one area gone, then you'd better believe we would call in law enforcement. We haven't heard that, so we haven't done that. Now let's consider option 2 -- Criminal Carl goes around asking neighbors for their mail ballots. If Criminal Carl does this after the neighbors have voted, sealed, and signed their return envelope, then the harm to the election is basically a nullity. After all, those votes still reflect the will of the people, it's just Criminal Carl's transporting process is unlawful. But what if Criminal Carl goes around to his neighbors and says "I'll give you $10 if you give me your unmarked ballot, and you sign your return ballot affidavit envelope." That's possible. And I daresay it's happened. But if Criminal Carl did that 100 times, 1,000 times, or 10,000 times, I find it hard to believe that not a single one of those households that Criminal Carl approached said, "what the heck you weirdo?! I'm calling the cops." So those are my thoughts on ballot harvesting. Hope it's helpful. And hope it gives you more insight into the early voting process. Thanks! S P.S. This is about ballot harvesting generally, if you want information as to why "2,000 Mules" was a complete scam, that is abundantly available on the internet, including a detailed demonstration of how geolocation footage the movie shared purporting to be of Atlanta, Georgia actually turns out to be Moscow, Russia. Whoops! @AmyStaubach
