What do you do when your old 2010 iMac is obsolete? You wipe the OS, install a lightweight Linux OS, and install HamClock.

@DXCentral Decision made by urban bureaucrats! So many rural areas in Canada without reliable cellular coverage or lack of smartphones and not located near VHF marine transmitters. I’ve come to rely on my Weather Radio to alert of pending life threatening weather events. Very bad decision.

Cell phone networks cannot handle large volume capacity. Storm events are a good example of this. There needs to be some sort of contingency plan for when cell networks go down or are over congested. Traditional weather radio serves that purpose. Waiting until the event to get people to use weather radio is too late. They need to be familiar with it through regular use. This is a huge huge mistake, Canada

🇨🇦 Weatheradio Canada will be shuttering VHF Weather Alert Broadcasts on all 230 transmitters starting on March 16, 2026. They will rely on cell phone and digital alerts, which I think is a huge mistake. @DXCentral @dx_sphere @w2njl #WXDX @NWS

I don't always ADSB, but when I do, I like it with a heavy dose of Tron-style light trails, Battle Zone-esque vector graphics, and VFD graphic spectrum displays. Who remembers playing Battle Zone at the arcade? The volcanoes erupting in pixels still blows my mind.

How did DXers in Ontario, Ohio and Missouri watch TV signals from Colombia, Venezuela and Nicaragua last week? ❤️‍🔥 For @radioworld_news, I wrote about the unusual propagation, plus how the F2 layer allowed a DXer in California to hear South Korea in 1957! radioworld.com/tech-and-gear/…

WOW! Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds seen on Wednesday from Elmira, New York. These clouds form on windy days when two different layers of air move at different speeds. Photo courtesy of Alexis Stoner. #NYwx

Multiple large filament eruptions including the Sun's far side and near side. I wouldn't rule out a coronal mass ejection with earth-directed components even though the position of the eruption(s) would suggest a miss of the earth. We have to wait for further analysis.

Here it comes! Over the past several days, a large coronal hole has emerged from the farside of the Sun now almost directly facing Earth. We may start to feel the fast solar wind from this feature by Jan 17 when minor geomagnetic storming may occur. Stay tuned...
