I’m starting my data analysis journey in public. I’m an Industrial Chemistry student who recently became curious about something: How much of the world can be explained with data?

but that might be a visibility issue. Cleaned, queried, visualized. Lesson: Data doesn’t just show reality — it shows what can be measured.

I started exploring a global COVID dataset using MySQL & Tableau 📊 One pattern stood out immediately: Yemen shows a very high death rate (~26%) Despite not having the highest number of cases. Meanwhile, the US has the highest cases… but ~4% death rate. Globally?

Fatality rate is ~0.91%. So what explains this gap? This could suggest: limited testing (only severe cases recorded) underreporting of mild cases differences in healthcare capacity Another pattern: Some regions appear less affected in the data…

Day 2 of learning SQL. One thing surprised me: Writing queries is easy. Understanding the structure of the data is harder. Tables, duplicates, missing values if you ignore them, your queries can return the wrong results.

@RuthChika12 Classic messy dataset problem 😅 I’d first standardize the column: strip symbols, remove text like USD/£, handle commas → then convert everything to a single currency if needed. It’s crazy how many “number” columns are actually all over the place.

I’m cleaning a dataset and I saw this in the “unit price” column: $129.01 USD £791,140 98.65 Same column 😭 How would you clean this as a data analyst?
