The issue that the Big Ten coaches are most animated about at Big Ten meetings? The new/complicated punting rule (below), as the Big Ten coaches are 18-0 against it. Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, a longtime punt advocate, was among the many animated coaches. “There’s no compelling reason to change it. It was already perfectly fine.”

Here's the link to the CFO2026 Preseason Video 1 Scrimmage Kick Numbering. This video lays out the nuts and bolts of the new NCAA "punt rule." 🚨🚨Major Changes: 1. Formations must be 2x2 on either side of the snapper. Unless there are five players, wearing numbers 50-79 on the LOS. 2. Players are locked into the 2x2 formation with the Guards & Tackles in, or touching the tackle box. No shifting, and they are ineligible. 3. If five players wearing 50-79 are on the LOS, normal football rules go into effect (shifting/eligibility). 4. If a team elects to change player jerseys to alleviate numbering exceptions, a team may fill out a form and present it to the referees in the pregame meetings. They have to change things currently. The transfer portal is killing high school recruiting. Think about the time when you were in high school and dreamed of playing at the next level. Current highschoolers still have those dreams, but are getting passed over because of the portal an exemptions allowing players extra years. there are currently teams going into this fall that will have players on their seventh and eighth year. Roster limits are killing the walk on. they need to make some big decisions and stick with them instead of changing them every year.

So you’re telling me… My class who played 4 seasons in 4 years and had to play WITH and AGAINST 5th, 6th, 7th year guys, fight for roster spots/scholarships, etc… AND NOW. You’re telling us we can’t get a 5th year but everyone after us can?? Weird…
