When I saw the insensitive and racial depiction today on Truth Social of the former President and his wife, my heart sank. It was a terrible post. In all times we need to remember to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27 All of us in leadership know that we are held accountable and responsible for subordinates’ actions done in our name. Thankfully, according to the White House the President took action and had the post removed. I hope we will see accountability for those responsible. I encourage the President to publicly denounce the post and make sure that this can’t happen again.

I’m grateful that I know the God of the Bible and his spirit lives within me. I’m grateful that the Jesus my mother and father introduced me to through the pages of scripture was never cloaked in an American flag or bound by the customs of colonialism. Im grateful that I never thought Christianity and Americanism were synonymous, some sacred birthright for those who call this republic home. This marriage of God and country is dangerous and this seemingly simple post serves as both a harbinger and a hallmark. How many people have been fooled into thinking their salvation is a benefit of their passport status instead of their repentance? How many souls have shunned the truth of the gospel because it has been perverted, whitewashed and deployed as a weapon of oppression? Frederick Douglass’s timeless words ring true, “Between the Christianity of this land and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference.” God help us.

I believe this is the time to put your principles ahead of football. I know we love the Super Bowl. But there are more important things- like standing up for what’s right.
