I never imagined a world where physicians speaking up against the senseless murder of children, the killing of tens of thousands of innocent civilians would be accused of unprofessionalism. Yet, this is the reality that many face today — one that we cannot accept. We must continue to resist injustice in all its forms. #NotATarget #FreePalestine

Israeli forces frequently deliberately prevented injured Palestinian children from receiving medical care. In 43 percent of cases in our report, Israeli forces detained and fired live ammunition toward ambulances, paramedics, and civilians attempting to provide aid.

My colleagues at UHN, Chris (@CmcintoshAi) and Dr. Heather Ross, just published in @NatureMedicine — and it's worth paying attention to. pVO₂ — peak oxygen uptake — is the gold standard for gauging heart failure severity. But measuring it requires a treadmill and a hospital. Their AI model trained on Apple Watch data can estimate pVO₂ continuously, from daily life. The clinical hook: a 10% drop in wearable-estimated pVO₂ predicted unplanned hospitalizations with >3x elevated risk — caught roughly a week before the event. That's not a fitness tracker. That's an early warning system for decompensation, worn on your wrist. Ambient, passive, continuous — the kind of longitudinal signal you simply can't get from clinic visits. Proud to be at @UHN where this kind of work happens Congratulations 🎉 @bradwouters @PMunkCardiacCtr

The Gaza playbook. Make the entire south of Lebanon uninhabitable. Start with the bombing of those who tend to the living and the hospitals. Absolutely disgusting. Again, the world sits on its hands as Israel now moves to decimate & ethnically cleanse nearly a million Lebanese.

As someone who regularly interacts with clients leaving the federal prison system, this genuinely hurts my heart. What a cruel thing to do. This decision must be reversed @gary_srp @MarkJCarney. You’re buying over $200 million in weapons for Ukraine but can’t spend $2.4 million for Canadian jobs and the wellbeing of our communities? “This is not merely a budgetary adjustment. It is a policy choice that disproportionately harms those already marginalized and contradicts Canada’s stated commitment to evidence-based corrections and human rights leadership”.

Israel is pressuring the Canadian government to limit our charter rights to protect Israeli apartheid, warcrimes, and genocide. Marching the streets in solidarity with Palestinians and criticizing the state of Israel are not illegal. This has already been through the courts in Ontario. It is already illegal to shoot at synagogues and to incite hate. In the face of rising antisemitism, existing laws apply that must be enforced. Why are Israeli officials focused on suppressing Palestinian solidarity and criticism of Israel rather than finding the perpetrators of these crimes and having existing laws enforced? ––––————————— “Israel is pursuing a sweeping diplomatic and public relations campaign to convince Canada to change the way it tackles acts of antisemitism… But while the country’s ambassador is suggesting Ottawa should limit certain “freedoms” in order to deal with threats his government links to Iran, he hasn’t said which freedoms should be limited… [The Israeli ambassador] singled out al-Quds Day protests, which proponents say advocate for Palestinian rights and for sovereignty over Jerusalem… ‘It is nothing else than an attempt to openly and massively delegitimize the state of Israel,’ he said.”

Last week saw reports of 🇮🇱 using white phosphorus in residential areas of Lebanon. This warrants a greater discussion on white phosphorus: What is is? How is it used? Is using it illegal under international humanitarian law? What are the health effects? 🧵 (**graphic**) 1/

Behind this door, I used drugs at a supervised consumption site 4,000+ times. It saved my life. Behind another door in the same building, I kept walking into detox… over and over… until recovery finally stuck. People didn’t see the fight. They didn’t see the determination. They only saw the drug use. Today I’m approaching 13 years drug-free because harm reduction kept me alive long enough for recovery to happen. Shut these sites down and you’re not treating addiction. You’re just deciding who gets to die!

Yesterday the Ontario government gave notice to all publicly funded supervised consumption sites that their funding will be cut after 90 days, and thus will be forced to cease operations on June 13, 2026. As a family doctor, I understand the important work of harm reduction as treatment, and the importance of other treatment services for substance use. Supervised consumption sites operate from a harm reduction approach with the primary goal of keeping people alive and preventing overdose deaths. They allow people to use previously-obtained drugs under the supervision of a healthcare worker. They provide sterile supplies, overdose prevention and management, as well as low-barrier access to other health and social support services. Some sites also offer drug checking services to determine whether the patients’ drugs have been laced with toxic substances. All of this is essential and medically necessary healthcare for people who use drugs. Having worked with patients who access safe consumption sites, I know that this is a life-saving healthcare service. This decision to withdraw all public funding for supervised consumption sites is a death sentence to likely many patients and people who access these services. Harm reduction saves lives. The Ontario government’s decision to cut all public funding for supervised consumption sites in the province is a deadly policy decision that will result in more deaths from overdoses. Supervised consumption sites are a healthcare service for people who use drugs. To deny and defund medically necessary healthcare services in the toxic drug crisis environment is abhorrent and deeply unjust.

Muslim Advisory Council of Canada
On the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we are reminding governments, media, and institutions that anti-Muslim hate is not an abstract issue, it is a growing global threat affecting the safety, dignity, and rights of millions. Islamophobia fuels discrimination, violence, and exclusion. Confronting it requires more than statements; it requires real accountability and action. We urge leaders to treat Islamophobia with the same seriousness as any other form of racism or hate. Media inquiries welcome. #CombatIslamophobia #Islamophobia @CTVNews @CBCNews @CHCHNews @TRTWorldNow

Brief reflections on Premier Ford's attempt to stop Al-Quds Day in Toronto 🇵🇸 At 2:30pm yesterday, Premier Ford announced "I've instructed my Attorney General to pursue an injunction against the Al-Quds Day demonstration planned for Toronto." Our volunteer legal team had less than a day to prepare our position on behalf of the Al-Quds Day Committee, but we set to work. Challenging the injunction application would not have been possible without the dedicated work of lawyers, law students, and activists who joined together to strategize, draft submissions, and assemble the necessary documents. This all had to be done without having Ontario's materials, which we received approximately one hour before the injunction application was set to be heard today. There did not appear to be any legitimate reason for the province's 11th hour strategy. It simply made the entire process unnecessarily complex for everyone involved. In our submissions, we argued that Ontario's application was politically motivated, and that it relied on baseless fearmongering and anti-Palestinian rhetoric in lieu of a meaningful evidentiary record. At para. 16 of its decision, the Court found that: "...there is no evidence in the record that there were criminal charges arising out of last year’s Al Quds rally in Toronto, or at the rallies in any of the prior 30 years. There is no evidence that participants at last year's rally incited hatred or engaged in hate speech. There is no evidence before me of any criminality arising out of this rally in the past, much less evidence that could satisfy me that there is a "strong case" that there will be criminal activity this year." Although it was defeated this time, the Ford government has repeatedly shown that it is prepared to disregard the spirit of the Charter and silence voices it disagrees with - especially where Palestine is concerned. Freedom of expression and assembly prevailed today. Vigilance and community solidarity are required to ensure that it prevails tomorrow.

They raped a man. They gang-raped him. They raped him so brutally that he had to be hospitalized. Doctors documented the injuries. The video of the assault was leaked. Now the rapists are free. This is not just unlawful and immoral. It is sick! #ThisIsIsrael

When I use my phone and try to turn the photo into text the link is still unusable, not that the hospital computer I use has a camera to do this either. Maybe a QR code? Or just accept the faxed letter and digitize it on your end?

Reuters confirmed that the elementary school in the Iranian city of Minab was bombed TWICE by the US military, 40 minutes apart. This was intentional. You don't "accidentally" bomb a school TWO TIMES. 168 children and 14 teachers were killed. It was a massacre.

This pretty picture is of the province’s smaller Science Centre near their private spa at Ontario Place. The price tag is $1.4 billion. The existing building only requires about $350 mil over 20 years (and about $30 mil for priority repairs). All this based on the AG report.
