@TheDataDecoded @broseph_stalin Not true. Prior to British colonisation India had a giant textile industry and was producing and exporting fabrics. Its only towards the end of the 17th century that the British textile industry changed the form of its production to factories etc.

@broseph_stalin The premise is India's GDP was "siphoned off" by Britain, causing the drop in Indian GDP from the 1700s to 1947. However, India only had 27% of GDP because of its large population. Industrialization allowed Western countries to produce vast wealth, causing India's share to fall.

Hartley-Brewer: Why is colonialism bad? Me: “When Britain arrived in 1700s India had 27% of global GDP. After 200 years of theft and millions starved to death by 1947 India had 3% of global GDP, 90% living below the poverty line, a literacy rate of 17% and life expectancy of 27”

@_TimBarker the way that white is this eternal category. It's one of the hardest things to challange and build up an understanding of that "white" only really develops as a social response to a type of slavery. Fucking exhausting.

@jesaulenkondo i think Mute Compulsion is a masterpiece and its added a lot to my thought. But its a pretty difficult read. The Origins of Capitalism is excellent without the caveats. And I haven't read it but David Harvey is always really helpful.

Feudalism involved direct extraction. Being a serf meant you owed days of Labor and taxes to the lord. These are legal positions enforced by arms You can choose to be exploited by a different boss under capital but you can't under feudalism. It's different!

This "it's feudalism now" stuff seems to miss what is distinct about capitalism. It's not that surplus Labor is extracted but there are material pay offs like stability etc.
Gio獅@TheSportProhet

capitalism has essentially recreated a new form of serfdom. Gig workers, rideshare drivers, and other app-based laborers, It’s like a high-tech version of sharecropping, they extract a surplus labor without offering stability, perpetually indebted to an algorithm.

@kevinbonham What's your sense of the MRP for the cross bench seats. Particularly the 3 Brisbane greens seats that the poll has changing hands to the ALP?

Putting it like that, in that adjusted version the Coalition is within a uniform 0.5% swing of a majority with 77 seats - and also within a uniform 0.5% swing of probable opposition.

Had a go at remodelling the YouGov MRP close 2PP seats to (i) add in personal vote effects (ii) assume uniform swing on Green preference flows by seat instead of a uniform national flow.

What we need is a socialist government — backed by a mass movement — that will treat businesses and the rich the way Musk and Trump are treating US government agencies, migrants and workers. In a way, they’re setting the precedent: kick down the doors and seize it all.
