@SCynic1 If it’s Rayner you’re talking about, she wasn’t cleared (and wouldn’t have resigned if she had) and is getting only what she gave when opposition. She’s a hypocrite no more no less

@pjm1kbw I do believe that people have the right to criticise judgments. You and I have both done so. We’ve brought appeals. It’s fine to argue why judges have got it wrong, just not to suggest dishonesty or bias with jolly good supporting evidence

@DamianAStuart The judges are required to apply the law unless and until it is changed. To do otherwise would be unconstitutional.

@SCynic1 The problem is that people consider every issue to be binary these days. Some argue that to keep the ECHR means we go to Hell in a hand cart. Others that to scrap it means summary executions and torture. Both are wrong & their arguments diminished for a lack of nuance

I defend the ECHR. It’s made society better. It’s been the catalyst for rigorous debate about rights in conflict. That it’s a lightening rod for populist politicians is irrelevant to its actual merits. But this is still complete codswallop.
