@mallory_reads Lat pull downs should be fine if you could find a good weight for him. Oblique twists either on the ground or a machine might be ok as well. Back extension platform could be good for body weight exercises. But I’m not sure how that would impact the spine honestly.

We are trying to get my son into weightlifting. He’s 14, and very thin, but has a skinny boy six pack lol. He has to wear a back brace 20+ hours a day. We don’t want his muscles to atrophy, and having a strong back and core is important for scoliosis. The doctor says to avoid anything with spinal compression (no deadlifts, heavy squats, etc.). Looking for safe strength ideas that help build core/back/chest/biceps without risking his spine. Any tips? He pretty much only does pushups, and pull ups.

He’s 100% correct about his progression. Became such a good blocker that other areas of his game have become slept on a little bit. He’s going to surprise some people with his receiving skills in the league.

Was always a great athlete with soft hands and plenty of receiving skills out of the slot, but I will admit that I never thought he’d become the blocker he did back when he was a recruit. Was a willing blocker from the moment he came in for an injured Darnell Washington vs Ohio St. in the 2022 CFP, but he transformed his body to hold up in the trenches over the next couple of years. Went from 220ish to a legit 245 while maintaining his burst. Expect him to play for a long time in the league.
