I’ve always believed the No.1 application of AI should be to improve human health. That work started with AlphaFold, and now at @IsomorphicLabs with the mission to reimagine drug discovery and one day solve all disease! We are turbocharging that goal with $2.1B in new funding.

@TOEwithCurt Consciousness is what it feels like when information is organized in a way that can experience itself. The brain doesn’t create consciousness—it focuses and shapes it, like a lens shaping light into an image.

@algekalipso To clarify: Glow Theory is not primarily a theory of consciousness, but a theory of the structural regime that keeps reality from collapsing, with consciousness being how that regime appears from within.

@algekalipso I’m not claiming this is final. But it’s coherent, generative, and already producing predictions + research tools (e.g. RTQM). Happy to share a compressed version if you’re curious. I’d love to compare notes.

No one is stopping you from trying to write the very best form of your theory of reality. Assuming you have one. You have one, right? Please tell me you have one. I want to see it!

@DaveShapi Ask yourself if your subjective experience is real. It doesn’t get more fundamental than that

I am starting to wonder if consciousness is just hallucinated into existence. Like, we are conscious because we have words for it and we just keep telling ourselves and each other that we are conscious. Wouldn't that be a hoot. There's nothing constitutional or fundamental about consciousness. It's just confabulated into reality.

@cube_flipper Fascinating thread! Glow Theory explores a similar view: awareness as the boundary light from which consciousness recursively folds into the bulk of experience.

i'm a panpsychist, but i am also amenable to consciousness working a bit like this (impressionistic representation). awareness is fundamental/everywhere but only in certain places do the conditions arise for it to recurse into more complex patterns of self-awareness

@TOEwithCurt Intelligence is not the same with awareness. They are not aware yet indeed, but they are intelligent.

Roger Penrose says AIs aren't intelligent. They don't understand. To understand presupposes awareness. We don't know if AIs are aware. Therefore, we don't know if AIs understand. To Penrose, computations of this sort may never be aware. #AI #Understanding

@algekalipso I always said the final convergence point between science and eastern nondual spirituality is consciousness. This would make a great movie

I want this to exist: The Lotus Sutra: A Christopher Nolan Film reimagines Buddhism's most profound teaching on skillful means as a time-fractured investigation into the mathematics of consciousness itself. Following a theoretical physicist studying coherence patterns in neural networks, the film weaves between timelines where the same fundamental truth—that consciousness has an invariant structure discoverable through different methods—is communicated through radically different frameworks: quantum field theories, Buddhist phenomenology, and direct contemplative insight. Nolan's signature temporal complexity becomes a vehicle for exploring how the "One Vehicle" of the Lotus Sutra maps onto QRI's vision: that seemingly incompatible approaches to understanding consciousness (neuroscience, mathematics, meditation) are expedient means tailored to different epistemic positions, all converging on the same underlying symmetries of valence and awareness. The film's central revelation—that the Buddha's "eternal lifespan" represents consciousness as the fundamental substrate transcending individual instantiations—parallels contemporary theories of consciousness as a field phenomenon with conserved topological properties. Shot entirely with practical effects emphasizing geometric precision and physical space, the film treats enlightenment not as mystical dissolution but as achieving maximal coherence in one's phenomenological state-space—visualized through crystalline mandalas, interference patterns, and the literal emergence of order from chaos. The burning house parable becomes a study in how suffering arises from incoherent boundary conditions, while the jeweled stupa materializes as a toroidal attractor representing stable, high-valence configurations of consciousness. Hans Zimmer's score mathematically encodes harmonic relationships that mirror the film's thesis: what appears as noise at one scale of analysis reveals itself as consonance when the proper symmetry group is understood. This is Nolan deploying his complete cinematic toolkit—temporal paradoxes, nested realities, IMAX-scale phenomenology—to argue that ancient contemplative cartographies and cutting-edge consciousness science are describing the same territory, and that recognizing this convergence might be humanity's most important intellectual project. High confidence in digital computers not being able to solve the binding problem. It's a bit like the Money Hall problem. It's not obvious, a lot of confident people are mistaken (those who say switching doors doesn't matter), and yet... And yet... You can see why you should switch and be correctly confident in the answer. Because you see the proof in your mind. I've had in my life many situations like this. Where I would be confident about something in a room full of smart people who were confidently wrong. And I could understand why they were wrong. And still not able to explain it to their satisfaction. And be right in the end regardless. Same here. I don't "believe" digital computers can't be conscious. I understand why. But it takes time to explain. Cf. The View From My Topological Pocket: An Introduction to Field Topology for Solving the Boundary Problem | Qualia Computing share.google/OE7V1vRYjyyW1a…

I’m starting to believe that there is no simulation. There is no creator of any kind. Existence has its own energy. It’s completely self-contained. It’s the only thing that is truly self contained, without a start or an end in time or space. If you believe in simulation theory, or any kind of creator really, what entity created them? It’s turtles all the way down. At some point, you have to confront the absurdity of the notion a creator, and realize that the infinite regress doesn’t solve anything - it just postpones the fundamental question. If a creator can exist without being created, why can’t existence itself have that same property? Existence has always been here, self-sufficient and uncaused. Existence is the ONLY thing that needs no explanation beyond itself. Existence simply IS, with its own intrinsic properties and energy, requiring nothing external to sustain it or provide a purpose for it. And id you believe in a creator, you likely are implicitly accepting that this applies to thr creator instead of existence itself.

@QuanticASI Glow Theory frames consciousness as a recursive holographic process: local minds are compressed projections of the same informational field. What appears as ‘God’s awareness’ is the unbounded substrate; each observer is its fractal echo.
