Regarding patient safety: The report of the Health Professions Review Board following my complaint about my son Dexter's death is online as a public document.   canlii.org   Under Case Name tab at the top use 2025 BCHPRB 43 and the decision will be linked.

I'll adjust it and get it etched soon. I bought the plot in 2022, but decided to wait on interment of ashes until his name was finally mentioned by the news media (they never did, nothing) or we had an inquiry. The fatality inquiry is April 23. Braver than the news media.

Many friends have asked what I have decided on for a gravestone to sit with this remarkable person, and it is fair to let people comment on how it looks before it is cut and etched.

@PaulRoundy1 @DrJamesEHansen True, modest acceleration and effect size are obscured by variations that are important in the short term and relatively less so later. Non-scientists want it black or white. However, the cited authors say "accelerating the pace of global warming...Accelerated warming may push.."

As far as next winter's condition goes, the El Niño signal is far more important. There is no real signal of accelerating surface warming, it's been basically constant since 1980. The illusion of acceleration comes from the unusual coincidence of ENSO events over the last 15 years.

Anonymous I’m a school nurse. We have a rule. Kids without lunch money get a cold cheese sandwich. Nothing else. It’s policy. This boy came in one Wednesday. Sixth grader. Stomach pain he said. I’ve been doing this twenty years. I know real stomach pain and I know hunger. “When did you last eat?” He looked at the floor. “Yesterday lunch.” Sent him to the cafeteria with a note. Told them to give him a full hot meal. Pasta. Salad. Milk. The works. Cafeteria lady looked at my note. Looked at me. Gave him the tray without a word. He ate like he hadn’t seen food in days. Probably hadn’t. Came back to my office after. “Am I in trouble?” “For what?” “For eating.” “That’s what food is for.” Started keeping granola bars, peanut butter crackers, juice boxes in my bottom drawer. For kids who come in with headaches that are really hunger. Stomachaches that are really empty. I’m not supposed to. Technically against policy. Don’t care. Told my principal once. She looked at me for a long moment..... Opened her desk drawer. Showed me her stash. Crackers. Fruit snacks. Applesauce. “What drawer?” she said. We never spoke of it again. That sixth grader is in high school now. Came to find me last spring. “I just wanted you to know I’m okay. And that I remembered. I always will.” He volunteers at a food bank on weekends. Has since he was thirteen. Best granola bars I ever bought.

"Antidepressants have been shown to reduce suicide attempts and completed suicides by 20–40%." Said: Not the evidence • 16% of US adults take antidepressants, yet suicide rates have increased. (Of course there are confounders.) • Some data suggest that in the short term, antidepressants are more likely to increase than decrease suicidal behaviors. While there are arguments for the selective use of antidepressants, preventing suicide is not one of them. Re the original post: returning to work and being involved in our lives is probably a better marker of behavioral improvement than many.
Practicon@moy_qmac

Los antidepresivos han demostrado disminuir en un 20-40% los intentos y suicidios consumados. El 60% de los que se suicidan nunca recibieron antidepresivos. Ignoren a los hippies, no le saben.

@dsowens17 I've taught data analysis at a university for over 20 years. People with no significant data experience lecture us with smug "the plural of anecdotes is not data", and "correlation is not causation", both of which naively miss the point.

Anyone who smugly repeats “the plural of anecdotes is not data” misunderstands how drug safety monitoring actually works. A large number of similar reports is observational data. In pharmacovigilance these patterns create safety signals that trigger further investigation. If you dismiss patient reports as “just anecdotes”, you eliminate the very signals that are supposed to prompt formal research into causality. This is scientifcally illiterate.

Is there a kind of person you can hire as a shield to go with you for all medical interactions when you get to the point that you just can't survive additional medical gaslighting of poorly understood illnesses anymore?
