Jordan Ellenberg on why he went into mathematics rather than statistics. "I tried. I tried to learn some statistics actually when I was younger and it’s a beautiful subject. But at the time I think I found the shakiness of the philosophical underpinnings were too scary for me. I felt a little nauseated all the time. Math is much more comfortable. You know where you stand. You know what’s proved and what’s not. It doesn’t have the quite same ethical and moral dimension that statistics has."

✅✅ A reminder by Dr. Rahaf Ajaj: She wasn’t on the Stanford list… but she made it to the Nobel stage. 🏅 Mary E. Brunkow, one of this year’s Nobel Prize winners in Medicine, has only 34 published papers and an H-index of 21. She never appeared in Stanford’s ranking of the world’s top 2% of scientists. She didn’t chase citations, metrics, or the spotlight. Yet, she became part of a discovery that changed how humanity understands the immune system. Today, while many are busy chasing numbers, titles, and rankings — she reminds us what truly matters in science: the question. 🔹 She wasn’t running after the lists. 🔹 She was running after the truth. Because in the end, it’s not about how many papers you publish… It’s about how deeply your idea can reshape the world. Focus on your idea, not your ranking.

"I've done it!" On 16 September 1977, Andreas Grüntzig made history: he carried out the first #angioplasty, and changed the lives of millions of patients forever. Standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before him, his vision and determination drove an entire new field of cardiology: Interventional Cardiology Listen to this description of his incredible journey by Jean Marco, who knew him and was also a pioneer in the field. Jean Marco carried out his first angioplasty in 1979 and was inspired by Gruntzig's example to launch a LIVE demonstration Course in 1982. This ultimately paved the way for the first PCR Course in 1989, founded with Jean Fajadet in Toulouse, and gave birth to PCR as we know it today. From the legs to the coronaries: How Andreas Grüntzig reached his dream 📺 🎧 pcronline.com/About-PCR/hist… (interviewed by @kiadeb87 ) More about the history of PCR here 🔗 pcronline.com/About-PCR/Who-… #interventionalcardiology #medicalhistory #interventionalcardiologist #cathlab

Truth starts with accurate words. 'Emulate' means to copy. Target trial emulation does not copy RCT design other than defining the inception cohort. It does not copy randomization, blinding, prospective data collection, specifying adjustment variables before collecting data ..
NonsparseOncologist@5_utr

“Emulating” RCTs is disastrous language applied to an infeasible situation - how does one emulate blinding? randomization? The old observational data is dressed up as the new “emulated RCT” Marketing terminology and salesmanship is all this is imho @RWJE_BA
