Here @BanfieldLab used #nanopore sequencing to study 'the nature and existence of enigmatic genetic elements' (Borgs) in soil. They assembled 7 new curated Borg genomes, revealing extensive DNA methylation that differentiates them from their host archaea, Methanoperedens. 🧵1/2

This fantastic collaboration not only has groundbreaking biology, it has been the basis of our released @nanopore seq protocol for @10xGenomics libraries including bead clean-ups for full length transcripts and now also the sockeye analysis tool (no short reads) #nanoporeAppsTeam
