His explanation doesn't really make any sense. You can be heavily rewarded in the NET by playing mid/ low majors - but just as you would playing high majors, you gotta cover the projected spread. The more you win by, the more you potentially move up. It's also adjusted for location. So yes, playing a mid/low major on your home court, you're going to have win BIG to be "rewarded" in the NET, but the opportunity is still there. Numerous high major teams have taken this route in recent seasons by blasting teams in the NET 250+ and riding that to a higher NET ranking.

Ben McCollum, who was at Drake last year, discusses the dichotomy of reaching the NCAA tournament at mid-major vs. high-major: “I see a lot of the perspectives of high-majors not wanting to play mid-majors, and I’d be one of them. You’re not rewarded for the NET so it doesn’t make a lot of sense.”
