@OskSta If you can think of how code gen would help solve a problem, just dive in! MSDN for Roslyn is pretty good, I also used Chat GPT to write me sample snippets. It totally hallucinates methods/types that don't exist, but it help kick start things for me.

@runevision @jonkristinsson That's all the verification is and claims to be. If you want to drag Unity over the way they have bungled their AI rollout, do so. This vector of "the vetting process is bad because it doesn't do something it doesn't claim to do" does not read as a good faith argument to me.

@runevision @jonkristinsson Yes, language around liability and indemnification would be good. Steam blocking a game is actually a protection if the developer did not consider the legal angle of their AI use. None of this relates to the Asset Store QA team's responsibility of making sure a plugin functions.

Unity removed Atlas from the Asset Store after the community revealed it literally just downloaded 3D models from SketchFab. And yet they still maintain that they actively review all verified AI solution providers, even as they just proved they didn't in any meaningful way.

@runevision @jonkristinsson The only claim they made about ethical datasets was with respect to their own tools. They have been rather cagey about saying how the datasets were built, but you can find tweets where some developers say they paid actors/creators for their contributions to the internal datasets.

@runevision @jonkristinsson To be clear, I err the side of anti-AI myself, and this whole debacle has been embarrassing for them. That said, they did not claim that their "enhanced vetting" asset store verification process made any guarantees about ethical datasets.

@runevision @jonkristinsson And then you fix the bug, and players are still like “they were incompetent for having the bug to begin with”. If you have ever seen players react this way and felt frustrated, then you should have some empathy for Unity bungling this and trying to correct it!

@runevision @jonkristinsson Let’s not be too overzealous on the “Unity is bad actually” crusade. They’ve done the right thing by removing it. I look at this like a bug making it past QA and into the hands of players. Do you know how it feels when those players say “wow did they even QA this?”

@MattGambell @CiroContns Yeah the studio I was at in 2017 quickly adopted CineMachine and Timeline and the combo was in a rough state. Workable, but only with dedicated engineering support. I would not have promoted those artist friendly then, and honestly I'm not sure I would today either.

Wonderful! This is what folks want to see, and only a day or two turn-around is not too shabby for a big org to admit fault and do the right thing. Plenty more to learn and grow for y’all at Unity, but this is a step in the right direction! 👏

@DGoodayle Doubled down on AI tools. Some of them are just reskinned ChatGPT and StableDiffusion. Some are straight up plagiarism. Unity was unwilling to answer some users’ questions about the datasets used.

Devs love to throw in things we don’t own during prototype/pre pro and think “oh we’ll for sure remove it before ship/no one will datamine this”. I once found and removed the full lyrics to smash mouth’s allstar hiding randomly in game data just a month or two before release lol
