@amalgamatomaton It would be so beautiful if the power of positive thinking was actually real but there is one guy in eastern Europe who is so negative that he overpowers every self help enthusiast on the planet all on his own.

It's kind of tragic that the word "computer" has evolved into a philosophical slur argumentation about why the brain "isn't a computer" is ~always an attempt to defend some sort of honor that we ascribe to brains but not laptops, not to grasp the nature of abstract computability
Filip Živanović@f_ili_p_ziva

@skdh Depends what you mean by "computer". In terms of today's computers, it's nowhere near that. Is it computational? To an extent, yes. But you guys that think you know a lot about brains, but actually know very little, are going to be surprised when they realize no AGI soon.

@C_U271D I've been trying to do this for awhile and I think I decided that table stakes are that gravity has to work very differently, which allows the plain to extend infinitely downward while also potentially solving air pressure issues with an infinitely high atmosphere

You might even make it so that the further from the center you go the more strange and exotic things get, even the laws of physics, but that's a bit more out there and might defeat the basic idea of an "infinite flat plain".

It would be really fascinating to hammer out a setting consisting of an infinite, (topologically) flat plain instead of a globe, making everything as scientifically or at least as logically consistent as possible.

People seem to be on the hunt for “authenticity” but nothing is ever good enough It’s like a weird paranoia that everything around them is ‘fake’ like they are worried they are in the Truman Show or something

every "new transplant" city in the US has taken on the same slop aesthetic. austin, nashville, scottsdale -- all of them embody the same kind of beer garden yuppieism. scooters and axe throwing, plastic apartments and group fitness. no history, just remote first jobs.

Maybe I’m too optimistic, I mean some people clearly just hate women and gays and minorities but I think other people are just sick of sweatpants, brutalism and bad aesthetics

What people perceive as "crowding" is really just cars. None of our cities actually have particularly dense populations, and many people don't go outside anymore. This is hidden by the noise, bustle, and sheer space taken up by cars, which make one driver seem "big."

@YuruPanzerkampf Reminds me of japanese torpedoes. Initially the british had the best, so they sent spys to find the head of the program and get him drunk to see if he'd blab technical details. He did, but they were absurd brags that got taken at face value. Then they built a torp to those specs.

@GOATGUTSRECORDS somewhere there's a webcomic about a 6 year old isekaied to a fairy wonderland who has to solve the whimsical puzzles to escape. But they're hard. Cut to she's a depressed 28 year old chainsmoking lolipops and eating gnomes livers just to taste something that isn't sugar.

everyone rightfully trashes on this but imagine how funny a game like this would be if the lead character was still as trashy, angry and suicidal as Harry
