Sovereignity accounts for only 7% of geographic restrictions placed on server workloads. User latency accounts for 15%. Half the time, the reason is simply "because that's where we always put stuff." (Microsoft study on internal workloads, 2025) dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/36…

.@IDC estimates that the total commercial sales for quantum computing will be $8.9 billion in 2028. That’s equal to 16 days of iPhone sales, or 13 days of Google ad sales.

@PatrickMoorhead If collaboration is better in-person for those jobs, should email & IM be banned?

This is all about employee-employer power dynamics, the fact that collab tech isn’t as good as we thought, and the realization that some jobs/functions are just done better in-person. Employers need to create an in-person dynamic that reduces friction & demonstrates in-person wins. I feel bad for those employees who were told it was OK to work from anywhere, changed their lives, then their employer changed the rules. I always knew it was too good to be true but maybe because I’m GenX working for 35 years. Workflows need to dramatically change, the tech needs to 10x all which it has not.

FP8 and FP6 are wasteful. Let's skip ahead to FP1: 1-bit floating point. Matrix multipliers require only a single transistor, and no precision loss when converting between int and float.

Based on Nvidia's #HotChips presentation, I can say that Nvidia has no interest in selling you one GPU.

Azure now requires 3-factor authentication for portal logins: 1. A strong password 2. A security key/authenticator app 3. A successful DC15 Arcana check rolled at disadvantage

Although I think people overlook what drives SPEC CPU popularity. It's not because of a perfect workload mix, it's because tests & results are portable, repeatable, and comparable (across both architecture & time).
