@PaulFox13 Thanks for the updates. We would like to visit Florida between the 31.07 and 06.08. Road trip from Orlando to Miami. We have no experience with the storms in Florida. What would you advise?

Area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic has a 40% chance for development during the next seven days. Obviously, not a lot of faith in any specific forecast as the system still has not developed. Assuming it does, and that is not a sure thing, the general track will be west-northwest across the Caribbean/southwest Atlantic. A very wide range of potential tracks are possible, with many of the ensemble members east of Florida. Will continue to watch and will have a better idea on how this will play out in the next few days. We monitor many similar waves during every hurricane season. myfoxhurricane.com

@heilja @martinberx @JLOracle This is possible. If you can figure out the correct values simply update the row. And if you want to access a row via a defect column you can do it with the hex value of the column: … where rawtohex(column) = 'hex'…

My next blog post will be about how it accidentally happens in your bank /insurance that a 0 byte is written into an #oracle 19c column and what highly problematic consequences that has depending on the column definition. @JLOracle you will love this one!

@martinberx @JLOracle Thanks for your kind words. The bug is first fixed in 23.1. 19c backport patches can be requested. Unfortunaly these patches can‘t fix the already corrupted data in your database…

@Daniel_Wandern @JLOracle I like the blog entry. Very comprehensive! The bug itself shows missing type (and maybe boundary) checks. There exists several such problems (I can share open bugs :/ ) I can not find any patches. Is it just me, or might they be released soon?

A dangerous bug in Oracle 19c that allowed non-numeric bytes to be stored in number columns has finally been fixed after several years in the wild. Find out more about the issue and its impact on COBOL-based systems in my latest blog post. (Link in Bio) #oracle #COBOL #bugfix

Java 11 is by default very reluctant to release unnecessary memory back to the operation system. The Shenandoah GC is more aggressive and is available in Java 11. thomas.preissler.me/blog/2021/05/0…

@ora600pl Thank you. Interesting article. We also had a lot of problems with flashback. At some point we let it go altogether.

I'll never forget asking a guy who maintained 40yo mainframes for an insurance co why he didn't just migrate the apps. His reply: the firm's actuarial code relies on specific bugs in the mainframe OS's floating-point handling. Run on any other system, it would produce chaos.

@oraclebase I think your website is excellent and it has helped me a lot. But I can't tell you how much I hate Oracle Flashback. It is an interesting feature but not suitable for production use. See my DOAG talks 2020 / 2021 on the subject.

Today we had a workshop hosted by @OracleSK on troubleshooting third-party software using Oracle as an example. He is a wizard. Fortunately more Gandalf than Saruman 😜
