fyi - a city cannot be for attainable, affordable housing and still be requiring high, off-street parking requirements

Postponing an election just before early voting begins so you can redraw the map to disenfranchise black and brown voters is as racist as it gets.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

The “fire hazard zone” exemption logic assumes more density = more risk. But that’s backwards when the existing density is aging wood-frame single-family with no fire suppression systems, decades of deferred maintenance, and building envelopes designed to catch embers.
Wesley Morgan@WesSDCali

The top 3 exemptions: 1) Areas within Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones 2) Areas identified in Low Resource Area 3) Areas with historically-designated resources

Like … what is the reason? I went through the document and the rationale for the alternative plan and exempting areas was never explained. Why, oh why, must we continue to make it harder and more restrictive to implement the bits of good policy that come out of Sacramento?

The @CityofSanDiego is proposing to exempt itself from almost all of SB 79.

LA County had the largest population decline in the United States last year. While the tragic fires are a factor, so is a lack of housing. Yet the city is delaying SB 79 — the bill for more housing near transit. WE NEED MORE HOUSING. The future of our state depends on it.

One of the many reasons we have a housing crisis: NIMBYs work hard to slow + block dev every step of the way. Thousands of NYers are suffering because of a dedicated group of privileged NIMBYs have worked to misinform a group of public housing tenants. crainsnewyork.com/real-estate/co…

"You don't build, we're not gonna fund" is exactly how the state should respond when it comes to recalcitrant cities that refuse to follow and implement state housing law. Restricting their funding is the only thing that will bring them to heel. We absolutely love to see it!
Governor Newsom Press Office@GovPressOffice

If cities and counties refuse to build housing, we're not going to fund them. The state has already delivered them $28+ billion to address homelessness and build. Build. Now. Enough!

The US should be overhauling and standardizing our building codes to allow this sort of development. The latter is key: to build quality at scale and affordability, you need standardized codes.

8 days to complete a 4 story, eight unit, courtyard building with timber prefab kit. That's one interesting detail I took away from a FASCINATING meeting today with an Austrian prefab company.
