If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life. Terry Prachett

@implausibleblog Great British Railway = OFGEM What benefits have OFGEM delivered on energy costs for the consumer? None - UK has highest energy costs in EU Louise Haigh already say rail fares will not reduce Labour are not renationalising rail Laura Kuenssberg

Left: Laura Kuenssberg uses the example of Northern Rail which has a bad service and is now under government control as a reason not to renationalise the rail network Right: Northern was privatised in 2004, paid out dividends till it was renationalised 16 years later in 2020 after delivering a bad service. It remained delivering a bad service under the Conservatives who didn't invest to improve it Labour have only just taken office in 2024, well done Louise Haigh for explaining that hundreds of millions have been paid in fees, which in turn is being paid out in dividends, instead of investment to improve the service, and that Great British Railway will address this @LouHaigh 👏

@implausibleblog 2024: Labour fixed funding for social care permanently when they got power in July Starmer & Rachel Reeves removed the ceiling that limits an individual’s costs to £86,000. Asset stripping homeowners Laura Kuenssberg did not ask what about Dilnott? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Keir Starmer asked this question in parliament on 1 May 2024, showing that he knew that there was a black hole in the government’s finances and that he was already aware that Winter Fuel Allowance could be used to fill it. Prime Ministerial amnesia is an an amazing thing.

Is what Sue Gray earns the biggest political story of the day? I don’t think so. So who is trying to distract attention from Gaza, the NHS, poverty, failing social care, climate change, the plight of refugees, and so much more? Could it be someone has an agenda going on here?

I condemned what Hamas did in Israel as a war crime. I think in that case that I have to condemn what Israel has done with its pager attacks in Lebanon. Surely they are war crimes in just the same way?

Reeves under pressure to axe winter fuel cut after £10billion windfall independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi… There is no £10bn windfall for Reeves in what the Bank of England is doing. The real story is £100bn of government bonds are being sold and none will be used to fund essential spending and investment. That’s what needs to be talked about.

They have a plan, it is to continue stealthily installing Sunak and Truss’s 74 deregulated Special Economic Zones and 12 Freeports, each zone under secondary legislation means no Parliamentary or public scrutiny. 6 days into office Rachel Reeves refused permission for the NAO to investigate England’s 48 SEZs and 2 Freeports despite an April 2024 House of Commons report citing lack of transparency, ignoring the Nolan principles, and questions over value for taxpayers money. As scores of councils go bankrupt, mass compulsory purchase orders are being issued, private equity moves in for the kill, the UK is being privatized. Labour MPs, Mayors, councillors, Lords, and Baronesses were board members of Sunak’s nationwide SEZs/Freeports consortia.

Perfectly captures the adolescent way the media/press communicates with the public. It’s insulting. It’s lazy. And, frankly, it reveals a total lack of understanding of government finance.

Why is there so much moral cowardice from political leaders regarding the outrageous attacks in Lebanon? Indiscriminate attacks that have killed children and many innocent people who have nothing to do with Hezbollah. Where is the outrage and condemnation @DavidLammy ?

@nogulagsagain @Suffragent_ @PGourtsoyannis @Keir_Starmer There's nothing socialist about Starmer's Labour gov. If it was socialist, they would shut down UKs' offshore tax havens, & put 1% wealth tax on UK 1% billionaires & multi-millionaires Rachel Reeves & Angela Rayner 1st act? Take winter fuel payment from pensioners = neoliberal
