On June 19 he visited the Vatican and had dinner at the hotel with his son, awaiting the arrival of his sister. By all accounts it had been a perfect day. His assistant described the family as having a "marvelous" time. Then Gandolfini went to the hotel bathroom. His 14-year-old son Michael discovered him unconscious on the floor at around 10pm. Michael called reception, begging for help. Paramedics arrived and Gandolfini was rushed to hospital, arriving at 10:40pm. He was pronounced d*ad six minutes later.
