@thattradgal I remember reading scripture where jesus told a rich man to give everything away and follow christ .
Mark needs god
English

@KristanHawkins Sounds familiar to Jesus .
Like when jesus stopped the woman getting stoned to death
When jesus chose apostles that were the worst of worst
English

@thecredoproject what a psychopath

It’s amazing when people reject the authority of the Catholic Church, then go on to become their own little Popes by claiming THEY have the correct interpretation of scripture.
This is what the early church fathers had to say about this.
St. Ignatius of Antioch (c. A.D. 110)
Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6:2–7:1
“They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes.”
St. Ignatius of Antioch (c. A.D. 110)
Letter to the Smyrnaeans
“Be careful, therefore, to take part only in the one Eucharist; for there is only one Flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ and one cup to unite us with His Blood.”
St. Justin Martyr (c. A.D. 151)
First Apology 66
“For not as common bread nor common drink do we receive these; but since Jesus Christ our Savior was made incarnate by the word of God and had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too, as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by him, and by the change of which our blood and flesh is nurtured, is both the flesh and the blood of that incarnated Jesus.”
St. Irenaeus of Lyons (c. A.D. 180–189)
Against Heresies 5.2.2–3
“He has declared the cup, a part of creation, to be his own blood, from which he causes our blood to flow; and the bread, a part of creation, he has established as his own body, from which he gives increase unto our bodies. When, therefore, the mixed cup [wine and water] and the baked bread receives the Word of God and becomes the Eucharist, the body of Christ, and from these the substance of our flesh is increased and supported, how can they say that the flesh is not capable of receiving the gift of God, which is eternal life—flesh which is nourished by the body and blood of the Lord, and is in fact a member of him?”
St. Irenaeus of Lyons (c. A.D. 180–189)
Against Heresies
“The mingled cup and the manufactured bread receives the Word of God and the Eucharist of the blood and the body of Christ is made… our bodies, being nourished by it… shall rise at their appointed time.” x.com/BibleInContext…

@frjamesa Let’s not forget Abraham was justified in his belief in god and also justified in his works with his son Isaac. Faith is a journey and if you don’t produce good fruit you will be cut from the olive branch

As a Catholic, who is your patron saint?
Mine: St. Theresa of the Child Jesus

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Interesting point. If you can understand what it means why aren’t all protestant churches united in doctrine and theology? Or are they all wrong and only you are right ?
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Calling apostolic disciples of christ man made religion is why your a protestant.
That would be equivalent to jesus sending the apostles to evangelize and you saying i’m not listening to you your just a man 😆
The “word” of those men is what led to the bible
English

Actually yes, as those you call church fathers are men. You call on the authority of men, whom you say support whatever you believe to be true well before the inception of the Catholic Church. So, your position, which you keep admitting is man led faith, goes even further back the the Protestantism you claim is man led faith.
How many circles are gonna have to draw before the 💡 goes off here?
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 You only think that it created the CC because they told you that.
Your misrepresentating Luther’s position and the whole point of the reformation. Regardless… if you cannot defend your theology without “whataboutisms” like this Luther claim, there’s red flag. 🚩
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 That’s a nuanced take.
Jesus is the authority and that authority is what created the catholic doctrine.
If you trace protestantism back it leads to martin luther. That is mans authority. That is what protestants believe in. Which is why none of you agree on doctrine.
English

So we are back at man is your authority. And they’re your authority because they told you they’re the authority. And if you go to the Bible to verify it, which you think they canonized and supports that they have the authority, you cannot interpret it for yourself to verify if it’s true or not because only the CC can do that.
And around and around you go.
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Actually you are mistaken. It’s not my interpretation”. That’s why I’m catholic. It’s the interpretation of The apostles and early disciples. To believe anything other is to believe they were wrong. I trust their written letters and word
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Ahhh… so you’re trusting your interpretation of Scripture. But you cry foul when I do it. Double standard.
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Because That’s what scripture says. Please note : 2 Thesolonians
15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings[a] we passed on to you,whether by word of mouth or by letter.
Passed down by jesus and the apostles and disciples
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 You keep telling me what you believe. That’s not what I’m asking. I’m asking HOW you came to believe that.
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 I believe apostolic succession starting from jesus to simon. The original christian’s that walked with the apostles. Their disciples. They are the ones that unified and created the universal church and its doctrine. The process was already completed.
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 uhm.. enlightened is very new-agey. Also not a good look. How wonderful you must consider yourself able to climb some ladder. Even the demons believe in Christ.
You didn’t answer my question: Why is your authority Jesus and the apostles? What led you to that conclusion?
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Gnosticy vs enlightenment
If you knew me personally you would understand it’s the ladder .
We all believe in christ
These are always polarizing conversations but my intentions are good
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Why is your authority Jesus and the apostles? What led you to that conclusion?
Btw, your “I used to be a Protestant but now I have superior theology” comes across very gnosticy. It’s a bad look.
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 My authority is jesus and the apostles. Your authority is yourself. Just like every protestant. Like I said, I was once a protestant, I actually get it
English

@deadtosin610 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 I get it, I was once a protestant like you. Let your self righteousness go and read biblical history. Listen to what the early fathers said. The people that actually walked with Jesus apostles. Christianity didn’t start with Luther. It existed for Thousands of years before
English

@DarrelLane4 @bryce_tatroe @Truth_matters20 Idk who pastor Bob is, but you just keep saying you believe what man say. How many different ways are you gonna try to play that card?
