Yousof Azizi, a PhD candidate in Public Administration & Policy at Virginia Tech (SPIA) and a media personality with hundreds of appearances on BBC Persian, has been detained by ICE—despite having no issues with his visa status. He was taken in front of his home, has not yet been allowed to meet his lawyers, and ICE is now discussing transferring him to a detention centre in Louisiana. Given there is zero issue with his paperwork, this raises serious questions about whether the detention is politically motivated. Azizi has been one of the few voices in the BBC Persian media sphere openly opposing war and sanctions on Iran.

As a Pakistani diplomat who I happened to meet today, told me, "In essence, the United States can not conduct serious diplomacy; their arrogance and maximalist approach make it extremely difficult for them to show minimum care and flexibility for the interests and concerns of other nations."

@RezaNasri1 It was wise to request outside observers - like Russia, China, etc. - so that if the talks do fail, other parties will be able to attest to the US' refusal to negotiate fairly and in good faith.

Seriously, am I the only one who wonders why America’s alleged chief diplomat, the Secretary of State, never participates in any diplomacy for our country? It’s not unreasonable that the vice president would be taking a major role, indicating the importance of these negotiations, but why, yet again, is a real estate executive and a relative of the president the other two members of the American delegation? Why does Secretary of State Rubio never attend – let alone lead — any of these negotiations? Truly, what is the point of having a secretary of state, or a state department, if all negotiations are primarily handled by businessman close to the president?

The Iran–U.S. Ceasefire terms are clear and explicit: the U.S. must choose—ceasefire or continued war via Israel. It cannot have both. The world sees the massacres in Lebanon. The ball is in the U.S. court, and the world is watching whether it will act on its commitments.

President Trump likely doesn't know (and maybe doesn't care) that he just admitted in a TruthSocial post that he lied to the American ppl and world about why he chose to start this war w Iran on 28 February. We should not let this go. In this post, he boasts that *none* of the reprocessed nuclear material allegedly buried in the June 2025 attack, has been moved since Operation Midnight Hammer. It has been under "exacting Satellite Surveillance" he boasted, so its definitely still there. He even went so far as to say we'll help them "dig up and remove" said material. One big problem with that boast: He and his chosen "negotiator" Steve Witkoff sounded the alarm from every TV and Cable outlet in America that Iran was "about a week" away from a nuclear bomb, and therefore posed "an imminent threat." That was a known lie. We, therefore, didn't merely violate the U.S. Constitution by going to full-on war without Congressional declaration or authorization, didn't just violate American law, didn't even primarily violate international law: The President of the United States knowingly took America to war - sacrificing the lives of at least 13 Americans and the wounding of nearly 400 others - based on pure fraud and a desire to seize the oil from another country. To add insult to injury, he also got us into a war we couldn't win. At the moment we have a ceasefire, but an end-of-war negotiated settlement is far from done; this could turn back hot again at any moment. This is an affront to the American ppl and shows with what contempt the President has for the lives of our Service Members. That's the truth, folks, from the President's own postings, you have it black and white.

Trump's genocidal threats are, of course, illegal and a point of unforgivable shame. But it may also be the bluster before a significant retreat. Trump may accept a variation of Iran's proposal, but precisely to avoid appearing as if he caved, he issues these bombastic threats to leave the impression that Iran backed down out of fear. Accepting elements of the Iranian proposal would have several benefits for Trump: Though Iran insists on charging transit fees, the Straits would nevertheless reopen. Oil would flow once more, which would swiftly push down gas prices in the US. Trump can point to this as a major win, while belittling Tehran's newly won control over the waterway. But precisely because he will be slammed for this by many voices in Washington and in Israel, he needs a narrative that claims Iran caved to his threats. Hence, the unprecedented threats.

Should the UK Government be letting the USA bomb Iran from airbases in England? Spread this far and wide and lets see what people think given no vote or debate in Parliament is allowed and this is the only feedback there will be.
