It’s another rainy season, and once again we’re watching the same roads drown, the same homes flood, and the same excuses recycled. A whole committee was formed to ‘investigate’ flooding, yet a year later nothing has changed except the press statements and photo ops. At this point, the floods aren’t just exposing failed drainage systems they’re exposing how little urgency is placed on the lives of ordinary people. We keep being reminded that when it comes to action, we’re only important during campaigns

Accra’s flooding problem feels impossible to solve because the city has outgrown the infrastructure meant to support it. This is no longer just about desilting gutters. The capital needs a massive structural overhaul in drainage, planning and enforcement.
