@themortalemily So sorry you needed to deal with this! Your talk was amazing and I loved the energy and insightful approach you had into something very few (or no one?) would look at from SRE perspective. And Jeli booth was awesome in all aspects!

We learned a lot only having women staffing our booth, and we’ll change how we manage this for ourselves/each other in the future. But from here on out let it be known: if someone says “well it was good talking to you, enjoy the rest of the conference!” It’s time to disengage.

Ahhhh why not, it’s been a week, and I’ve gotten some distance from it. This tweet is about me! I gave a talk about how there are no repeat incidents, and how you have to actually talk to people to learn the nuance between similar events. 1/8

@niallm Reply to this thread with: * Your top 3 problems with Machine Learning (real and wrong answers welcome; points for insight but also obviously for humor because in these trying times humor matters a lot). 2/3

@tmu @niallm 2. There are not enough people who can speak both languages - ML and SRE. This results in many misunderstandings and assumptions!

@tmu @niallm 1. So many don’t make time to understand mechanisms of how ML works and “throw problems over the wall” for ML to figure it out for us…

@ahidalgosre @wyndigo Maybe we can have a quotient of automation value add and cost considering not only time saved, but also social aspects, impact on cognitive load, maintenance, automation platform upgrades, documentation, frequency it runs, etc…

@ahidalgosre @wyndigo Also automation may help to reduce cognitive load or instead add additional layers of complexity preventing effective diagnostics of the problems. It may help to reduce toil, or add to the siloed knowledge if poorly documented or non standardised

Your attitude and the potential to influence and inspire the rest of the team is much more important than the number of coding languages you can write “Hello world” on

When you need to do something that requires a lot of focus and time (hours/days) - it maybe hard to start, so you keep #procrastinating. What I do is to tell myself I’ll only do 30 min of it and define what exactly I’ll do. Usually that’s enough to start and spend hours on it!

If you are in a search for a new role, don’t just look for roles that map to your past experience. Look for roles that will help you to develop new experiences - think about your potential to grow and learn in the new role and if it will be fun to work with the new team
