Periodic reminder that Cialdini talks in his book Influence about the difficulty a person has taking back any position s/he has stated loudly and publicly and repeatedly. A person convinces himself of things, and is also embarrassed to admit a mistake. Forcing a person to take a public position can even work as brainwashing. So don’t expect conspiracy theorists about Charlie Kirk or anything else to do some big mea culpa. They will either continue to insist they are right and develop newer, more elaborate theories, or they will just stop talking about it and act like it didn’t happen.

Winning the Nations League would be a good bounce back.

@FischerKing64 Like @AlexiLalas said, this team did probably win over fans and spur some momentum. The problem is at some point you have to be able to show up in the big games, and it's that wall we just can't seem to punch through.

I remember being in a house in college with a guy who had little patience for soccer. One time he was drunk and someone put in on the TV, he got agitated saying ‘turn this shit off, these losers aren’t even using their fucken hands!’ I think his view is widely shared in the US.

@WadePlem I still plan on watching the rest of the World Cup though. It's still been a good one and I do want to see how it ends.

Credit where it’s due I talked a lot of shit and Belgium came out and punched us in the mouth, and embarrassed us. Goodluck to them the rest of the tournament and as for the USA, we HAVE to focus on soccer more if we’re going to compete. Was a fun World Cup, see ya in 4 years 🇺🇸

@RampCapitalLLC That's the thing that stings the most. I was enjoying this World Cup so much, just all around so many good games. And this loss, and how we lost, just takes all the wind out of my sails.

Obviously not the ending anyone wanted but this team was really fun to watch and I think they got a lot more people interested in the sport than otherwise would have. Simply didn’t have it tonight. Still hopeful for the future of U.S. soccer.

@CigsMake That's sort of what Dune was centered around. They didn't get rid of all technology, just technology that could "think" for you. If the tech was something you still had to do work with, that was fine.

Someone is going to start a movement around going nearly off-grid from technology. Not fully Amish or Mennonite, but close. Minimalism on steroids. It’s going to become popular, and it’s going to become cult-like.
