"Eleven hundred men went in the water. Three hundred and sixteen men come out. The sharks took the rest. June the 29th, 1945." One of the greatest movie monologues ever--even though Quint got the date wrong. The USS Indianapolis was sunk just after midnight on July 30th, 1945. It's possible they left it in because the character of Quint was drunk and traumatized, and had blocked out/forgotten the date. In a way, the error almost makes the moment more powerful. Quint talks tough, but is a deeply fractured human being. He could give a f*** about dates at this point in his life. 🦈⚓️

Too many organized games - not enough kid run games. Wiffle ball, “Running Bases” which were regularly played by kids in the past allowed aggression and experimentation without significant consequence. Those kid games were invaluable in teaching baserunning instincts, timing and situations.

The one skill as a High School Coach I have seen diminish at the High School level over the past 10 years is Base running. WHY?

Drew Aromando (‘27, NJ) dominated on the hill today, helping his team advance with 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball. The righty struck out seven while allowing just five hits in his shutdown outing this afternoon. He topped out at 82 mph with his fastball and mixed in a breaking ball in the mid-60s that was very effective. At 6-foot-1 his arm angle is a high 3/4, almost being over-the-top that really presents challenges for his opposition. #MAWorldSeries @PG_Scouting

Here’s some of my highlights from my HS debut for Gill St. Bernard’s against Franklin HS at Diamond Nation. Came in relief in the Top of the 7th. 3 up, 3 down. 1IP 0H 0BB 0R 2K @LIBEXPOS @GSBAthletics @DiamondNationNJ
