@Kalshi It's faulty statistics. It comes from developers who use a service called OpenRouter. The sample is from a subset of developers who throw a bunch of code at cheap low-quality Chinese models. For day to day use, essentially zero westerners use Chinese models.

@Arianrhod11 @tongbingxue I went to Chongqing about 10 years ago to visit a friend from college. There were some flashy areas equivalent to a nice city in South America but with more LEDs. The small cities and villages were economically depressed and dirty. It is very much like Latin America.

Competition between US and Chinese AI models is heating up:
The proportion of tokens used by US firms that run through Chinese AI models on OpenRouter is up to a record ~58%.
OpenRouter is a platform that allows developers and companies to access and compare AI models from multiple providers, making it a useful gauge of real-world AI model adoption.
This percentage has TRIPLED since mid-January, overtaking American peers on the platform for the first time in March.

@ClownWorld Shotgun homes don't need to be hideous looking. Give it a normal roofline. Put the door on one side. Add a little flair to the windows and roofline. Put the parking and garbage pickup in an alley in the back. The builder from the video intentionally made them ugly.

I know some people think these tiny homes are the future, but I honestly think it’s pathetic. I’ve seen backyard sheds that are bigger than this. Somewhere along the way we started convincing ourselves that paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for what looks like a storage unit is normal. Is this really the direction we want housing to go?

Good attempt at deflection. China is generally 10-20 years behind its neighbors and the West in technology. Economically they are Mexico.

China certainly improved after it abandoned communism in favor of fascism, but it will never catch up completely.

The Premier told us that 600M Chinese people live on less than 1,000 RMB per month. A cost of 2,100 RMB sounds small to westerners but it is a huge burden for rural Chinese people.

@DavePKel @StefanFSchubert After which point the majority continue into highschool. Most areas still have tuition for it but it's quite low, like 300$ a year/ 2100¥, and many areas have abolished high school tuition. There's some pushback against 12 year compulsory in rural areas in general
