@mrdanwalker Yes he is. Look at who we beat to get to those stages and who we came unstuck against. We lost to every half decent side and beat no one of note in 4 tournaments and struggled against some lousy sides.

@Col00156481 The key is someone who can handle star players and get them working together when available for short periods of time. I think Howe could. There are good foreign options. Don’t always have to go for the biggest name which was our problem last time although Klopp may be an option

I'm not Southgate's biggest fan, I dislike his style of play. But which English born manager can replace him ? We have had foreign managers, who did not even make a semi final between them. Neither Howe or Potter are good enough. It is a huge problem and a huge decision.

Sorry but apart from an extra time equaliser he brought very little to the tournament. Holding the ball too long, losing possession and then looking at team mates with frustration. Diving and faking injury too. He’s been immune from criticism but he needs to look in the mirror

@Golden_Eagle___ @GunnerLoulou Agree with that. I’d say Mourinho is a safe coach and plans it that way. Southgate dithers but then makes decisions too late in the day although his default position is caution. We rocked up in Germany without a clear plan hence the Trent/Gallagher/Mainoo and formation mess.

@DavePickering4 @GunnerLoulou He's the most insane kind of gambler. Instead of making bold decisions he gambles on basically doing almost nothing until he absolutely has to, twiddling his thumbs, scared to make big calls. I don't believe he's too safe at all, I think he's too scared to take the right risks.

@Golden_Eagle___ @GunnerLoulou Agree Kane was a disaster and I’ve never been a fan of Southgate. I think he’s been lucky in every tournament and we’ve never beaten a top side under him in Euros or WC finals which is why I couldn’t see us beating Spain, the first decent side we met.

@DavePickering4 @GunnerLoulou Spain were the better team but Southgate destroyed any chance of us matching or beating them with his team selections. We largely lucked our way to the final playing with 10 men thanks to handicap Harry and the🤡after dancing with death several times in a row picks him again.

@TFHBs Probably, yes. I still remember it to this day and it’s the first one that comes to mind when I think of celebrations. Also the magnitude of the goal as it pretty much won the game for Italy. On a personal level I will never forget Alan Sunderland v Utd in the 79 cup final.

@1968Tv I don’t normally say anything good about Spurs but I think we all have to admit Hoddle was a genius. Phenomenal footballer and one of the best I’ve ever seen. Technically brilliant and so intelligent. His goals and his passing were on a different level.

@GunnerLoulou We struggle even more against top quality sides. Defeats in tournaments to Croatia, Belgium and Italy have cost us, which is why I think we’ll get done by Spain. Southgate is awful. He’s negative, can’t change things in game and has had lucky draws in every tournament.

A lot of people are championing Southgate because of ‘his record with England’ So you haven’t been frustrated by his defensive approach, how he stifles top players or how we struggle against lesser quality teams? We are in the final but we win in spite of him, not because of him

@1968Tv Remember that game as if it was yesterday. That foul is the worse I’ve been seen. To this day I’ve no idea how Battiston survived it. The game was a classic and the French should have made the final. The Germans did them again in 86.
